This series has failed to grab my attention to the point that I have DNF'd this book around 80%. I will not continue this series, at least for now.
This was my favourite instalment so far. Unbelievably, The Wandering Inn still keeps getting better with every book. Andrea's performance was top notch, as usual. I love that we see so much of Erin's crew in this book, but I kind of missed Ryoka, as she's completely MIA. I will definitely keep reading (and listening to) the series!
I really wanted to like this book. At the beginning, I was really feeling the “cozy fantasy” vibes, but it got really boring really quickly. I just couldn't care for any of the characters, and I felt like the plot was all over the place. I bought the audio + ebook combo, and if it wasn't for the audiobook, I couldn't have finished it! I thought this was going to be like “Legends and Lattes”, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but sadly, it's of a much lower quality overall. I won't be continuing with the series :(
I adored this book. I don't even know how to explain it, but this book was exactly what I needed at this point in my life. I wasn't even aware that “cozy fantasy” was a thing, but it has to be one of my favourite genres. Viv is the perfect “heroine” and I would love to hear more from her in the future. I am so happy to have read this book.
Keeps getting better!
I don't know how Pirate Aba does it, but the Wandering Inn keeps getting better and better! This book focuses much more on Erin, who is my favourite character, but I did not find the side character stories boring at all. I can't wait to read the next one! The narration by Andrea Parsneau is outstanding too!
I have really enjoyed the Sun, Moon, Sand, and Star novellas and can't wait to start the full-length novel Upon the Sands! I was a little underwhelmed by the first book in the series, but they have got better and better. If you feel like you don't really care for book 1 but enjoy Jeremy's writing style, I'd strongly encourage you to give at least book 2 a go, as that is (from my point of view) where things start getting interesting!
I wish Jeremy's books were more widely-known, as he has created an exciting massive world where I, at least, love to get lost :)
DNF'd at 40%. It's such a pity, as I've given 5* to a couple of books in the series. Cytonic really went downhill, and Defiant hasn't grabbed back my interest, sadly. This book is VERY YA and full of YA tropes and language. I've caught myself rolling my eyes and cringing more times that I'm comfortable with, and I am not even halfway into the book. I understand I am not the target audience, being in my forties. I think I may be done with YA literature for good now. Again, sadly, goodbye Spensa.
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect wrap-up for Era 2 and I can't wait for Era 3! I might do a reread of Era 1 and 2 soon :)
Interesting start to the series...
I was very excited at the beginning of the book, as the premise is fantastic in my opinion, however, about 60ish percent in, I kind of got bored. For some reason, the aranea failed to grab my interest. I will continue with the series, as I've already purchased all four ebooks and audiobooks, but I hope it gets better in future instalments.
This has now become one of my favourite trilogies! I really enjoyed the the first two books, and this was the perfect conclusion. I had them for free through Kindle Unlimited (which I have on and off), but I have also purchased them. I might get paper versions too, if only to support this fantastic author. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
I've just finished reading this book and I'm speechless. I loved every bit of it. I must admit I was a bit wary when I started reading it because everyone says it's so sad. It is sad, that's true, but not to the point that you're crying the whole time (I only shed a tear twice). All in all, this book was an absolute joy to read and I'm pretty sure I'll read the whole Realm of the Elderlings saga in time.
I'm talking about the whole trilogy here: it was so worth it! The first book was 3* due mainly to the sheer amount of info-dumping. I found myself skipping whole pages of endless exposition, which didn't really add to the story as a whole. I really liked the premise and the story, and for some reason (the cliffhanger at the very end, maybe?) I bought books 2 and 3 immediately after finishing book 1 and I devoured them (like a Maw-Mouth XD). I have to say that my enjoyment increased the further I went into the story. The info-dumping also got better (decreased) as the book progressed, which contributed to my overall enjoyment of the books.
I have recently fallen in love with Charlie N Holmberg. I thought the “Paper Magician” trilogy (+1) was fantastic, however, the “Spellbreaker” duology has become one of my favourite fantasy stories ever. I do hope Charlie continues the series somehow in the future.
I've now had enough of Gerald for a while. I'll read/listen to season of storms when I feel like I miss the characters (or the narrator!), but not yet, as I've recently found out that it's actually a prequel.
Why did I wait so long to read this masterpiece? I could not stop reading for a second. Shalan's POV is my absolute favourite, despite what other reviews say. The 5th book (and last in this half of the series) will be released at the end of next year, so I will take my time reading the other Stormlight Archive books. I can't wait to continue, though :) I just can't believe how much I loved this book!
I may be slightly biased with these books because I live in the Scottish Highlands; however, I do think I'd still LOVE JD Kirk if that wasn't the case. The audiobook narrator, Angus King is simply out of this world. I have the physical books (for collection purposes mainly), but I prefer to listen to them on Audible, as, like I said, Angus King does an outstanding job! I HIGHLY recommend DCI Logan Novels!
I DNF'd this book about 80% in. Maybe Star Wars books aren't for me after all. I'll just stick to the movies for now :)
As anticipated, this book was 5* for me. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator is fantastic; I couldn't put it down! I'll be continuing the series soon :)
Amazing. I'm so pleased by this book. I read The Last Wish over a year ago and didn't continue with the series straight away because I wasn't blown away by it. Well, after finishing this one, I can officially say I'm a Witcher fan. I have a few books on my immediate TBR, but I'll get to Blood of Elves asap!
This book dragged a lot compared to the rest of the series :( I found myself getting bored for pages and pages and I think the ending did not pay off this time. I hope book 5 is as good as books 1 and 2 were.
On a more general note, I'd like to note that I'm getting more and more annoyed by the direction Brandon Sanderson's writing is taking. I really don't like his sense of humour and I can't stand characters like Wit (Hoid) or Wayne. I think I really hated Tress of the Emerald Sea precisely because of Hoid. Also, I have always been annoyed at the way he changed Matt's character in the Wheel of Time, making him much more of a clown :(
This (audio) book is fantastic for its intended audience (i.e. children - of which I have two!). We'll listen to the next two (for free on Audible).
I really enjoyed the first book in the series and can't wait to read the second one! This is a ‘cozy' urban fantasy book that serves as a great palate cleanser :)
I have absolutely adored this book. The writing style is very approachable and it never ever gets boring. I can't wait to start volume 2! Also, the audiobook is a masterpiece!
This is like Dresden Files but much better. It's available for free on kindle unlimited (including audio) but I would have happily paid for it. Needless to say I will continue the series.
I'm a bit conflicted about this one. I gave it 4 stars overall, but there are some elements that made me cringe (like the romance between two of the characters) and others that made me really excited about the whole story (like the general setup). For some reason, I just couldn't stop listening (I did listen to the audiobook). I will continue with the series :)
