A real surprise
This book is the best in the series so far. Strangely, I was about to DNF it about halfway because I was confused as to what was going on, but I persisted (or rather, I paid a little more attention) and ended up loving it. The way in which the same story is told from three different points of view is masterfully executed. I can't wait to start the next instalment!
I couldn't tell the difference in writing style between
this novella and Skyward/Starsight. This is top
quality stuff, like everything that comes out of
Sanderson's pen, and I couldn't tell it was co-written
by someone else. I think this is a must-read before
moving on to Redawn and eventually Cytonic.
This book is a good follow up to the first one. We get to know better Avery and her friends and things start to get interesting... I can't wait to read the next instalment!
This short story is a piece of art. It's the first story I've ever read by this author, but I'll definitely be back for more. I think I might have discovered one of my new favourite authors!
This is a fantastic “first” instalment for this trilogy (series?). It reminded me of Game of Thrones at times, but the style is much simpler and very approachable (more YA I guess). It is very fast-paced and kept me very interested in the story throughout. The only con I could find is that the ending felt somewhat rushed. Still, I can't wait for the next instalment. What a discovery James Hockley has been. Keep up the great work!
This book is a great follow up to Distant Shadow and a great setup for Queen's Descent (yes, I read them in the wrong order!). I have thoroughly loved Alidinia's journey from start to end. James Hockney's prose is really approachable and fast paced, but you do get hooked on the story and attached to the characters. I can't wait for the next instalment!
Eriel e Raskael forever!
I read this book in two days and would have given it 5* if it hadn't been for the underwhelming end. I only watched a couple of the Netflix episodes back when the series was released, but I have really enjoyed the book. I'll read the next two at some point.
James Hockley never fails to deliver, and this is definitely no exception. I have thoroughly enjoyed Kantal's coming of age story. It is very well executed and I've loved the references to his wider world. James is really on to something here, and I can't wait to read anything that comes out of his pen!
This book is more like 3.75-4, but only if you are a massive Buffy fan, which I am not. My husband bought it and I thought I'd read it, as I did watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer back in the day. All in all, this is basically like watching the TV show, but set 20 years after, which I guess is a compliment of sorts, but ultimately it wasn't really for me.
Sadly, I DNF'd this book at about 20%. I loved the first two books (maybe “loved” is too strong a word, but they did keep me entertained to the point that I read them back-to-back), but I was too lost in this one :( As other reviewers mentioned, you must have watched the Netflix series to be able to follow this book, and I haven't. I am aware that my rating is very low, especially when I have only read a chunk of the book, but I think it's not fair that it presumes you have watched the show. I want to read the books, not watch the show —even less now that it's been cancelled. I feel the first two books can be read (almost) independently of the book (especially the first one), but not this one. I any case, I didn't find the plot engaging at all. This one is jut going to sit on my shelf, sadly :(
I love these books. I've become really attached to Avery, Alex and the whole gang. I feel like these books get better with every instalment and I can't wait to read the next one!
I quite enjoyed this book, but I didn't really “love” it. To be fair, it's more between 4 and 4.5 stars. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but there it wasn't amazing.
I've given this book four stars. The concept is very interesting and I had a really good time. It's quite predictable and there are no plot twists, but I wasn't expecting those at all. If you just want want to have a good time and not have to think much about what you're reading, this book may be for you. Other people have compared this to Twilight; and while I think it has a similar atmosphere, the plot is very different. If you like “lighter” young vampire stories in a college setting, this book is for you. Just don't go into the book with the wrong expectations :)
4,5 estrelas :)
I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I have to say I feel quite underwhelmed regarding the ending... I was expecting some closure that I didn't fully get. I have binge-read the last three books in the series, so I guess I have enjoyed them quite a bit, but as I said, I do feel somewhat underwhelmed. I will read more books by Charlaine Harris (I own the Harper Connelly series), and I have pretty high expectations :) All in all, Sookie Stackhouse was a 4-5 stars read.
This book is honestly more 4.5 than 4 stars. It's very good overall, but I just wasn't blown away by it.
I had a good time reading this book, but I was somehow surprised by the fact that so many people die (although not all at once) and no one really seems to care much. I guess I'll continue the series for now.
This is basically like an encyclopaedia about the Wheel of Time. It's full of spoilers, so do not read it before finishing all 15 books. You have been warned. The content is actually quite interesting, but it's quite boring. I'd use this book more like a reference book, but I'm not sure when I would read it. If you check anything while reading the books, you are bound to find unwanted spoilers, and if you read it after finishing all the books (like I have), you may get bored (like I have).
Simply amazing
I binge-watched the TV show a few months ago (new season coming soon!), and now I'm slowly making my way though the books. I started reading them on kindle, but I now mainly listen to them on Audible. Whichever format you choose to consume the story, I don't think anyone will be disappointed!
I really enjoyed the “Shades of Magic” trilogy, but it gets even better here. I can't wait for more books in this world :)
I'm a big fan of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and I have adored this book. The only (tiny) con I can mention is that it can get a little boring at times, but again, along the same lines of Pride and Prejudice. The first part is a retelling of the events from Pride and Prejudice, but from Mary's point of view, and then we go on to follow Mary's life after those events. There are cameos from most of the characters we know and love (and others not so much), so this book has sparkled my nostalgia. All in all, I have thoroughly enjoyed this book!
I've been putting off reading this book because the author seems to have no plans to finish the series. However, I am so glad I finally read it. It's very nice to end the year in such a high note :) This is the best book I've ever read.
