One of the finest pieces of American Literature. It teaches you so much, it shows you so much, it inspires you so much. What a book.
One of the best short books one can read. This apparent fiction work has more truth than most non-fiction books. I've learnt more things from this one short read than I'll probably from 5 other books.
It is a fast-paced ride that shows you “the power of power”, and how the rot begins in people and how societies become corrupt. It also shows how illiteracy and simple-mindedness will be used against you, and how the masses are rallied against made-up villains to divert their attention from incompetence and real issues.
There's so much that can be written about this book but saying too much might take away from the experience of reading this book. People need to read this book, form their own perspectives and relate it to the situations around them.
In the end, the perfect quote from the book is, “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”
Edit: Can anyone recommend a palate cleanser read in the comments, desperately need one. I'd prefer it to be a mystery/thriller page turner. Thanks!
I'll keep this short, I'd rather not waste time writing about this book.
It's a completely overhyped book, there are so many holes in the story and even more unanswered questions. The protagonist is supposed to be autistic but she conveniently stops being one when the writer wants her not to be. The naïveté itself is stretched too far, and probably has the worst police work I've seen in a book.
So in a nutshell, a very bad plot, confusing characters, climax that simmered down in a couple of pages, little research on part of the writer and in my opinion a very bad ending.
P.S Tried keeping this spoiler free, otherwise there's a lot to rant about.
Took me nearly a month to get through this tiny book but being sick and in bed finally allowed me to do it. A very disappointing read.
Definitely one of the best Thrillers I have read in a long long time.
Spot on character development, even though it did kinda get boring sometimes but it never stopped me from what's going to happen next, at the end of a chapter you would always guess about the next one and want to read more.
Even though the hints started falling out about the culprit in the last few chapters the end was still quite surprising.
A definite read for everyone, just keep your patience and it would not fail to amaze you.
3.5/5
The book is well researched, and started off really well. The start was quite gripping, entertaining but the end was disappointing somehow. Furthermore, the writing style and the book does not feel well connected. In its attempt to be surprising it has turned out to be disjointed.
A good enough read but the first act had just made me hope for much more.
