Why this book?
When I was a child, I had a really hard time learning how to read.
My teachers, aunt and mom tried lot's of things... games, different teaching styles, songs, etc. Nothing really worked. I was able to read, but it took me a long time to figure out each word, and I would get frustrated and angry with myself.
Until... My mom started reading Harry Potter to me! Every night, she would read me one chapter; soon, I was in love with the book and couldn't wait to know was was going to happen next. I started following the words written in the book while my mom read to me, and by the time we started the second book, I was hooked.
My mom couldn't read to me every night, so I took matters into my own hands and slowly, oh so painfully slow, started reading the book by myself. Eventually my mom made a deal with me, for every chapter I read out loud with her, she would read double of that for me. In no time, I was reading none stop by myself because I didn't have the patience to wait for my mom to have time!
Thanks to my mom and Harry Potter, I feel in love with books and was able to discover amazing worlds, use my imagination and literature became my favourite subject in school. I even learned english by myself, so I could read books that weren't translated to Spanish at the time.
