Oh wow, this might be one of my favourite read. Fave character goes to scythe Rowan. I really liked how he turned out at the end of the book. Oh, and also scythe Volta!! Such a conflicted character. The last test had me weeping... Dang this book made me think about a lot of things. chef kiss
I did not expect to love this as much as I do. I might even like it more the the Mistborn trilogy! I really appreciate the way Brandon brought up these characters. And all the twists, I really did not see it coming—or I might just be too dumb to pick up the pieces. Vasher the mysterious man, wasn't sure what to make of him. He so grumpy we don't really see his intentions until later in the book. And Nightblood! I love this sword. And a bit terrified. Siri, she very cute and the perfect match for Susebron. They just meant for each other. I hated Vivenna in the first half. But then, they way she grew from her former self was marvellous. Siri and Vivenna contrasted each other in the beginning and even in the end. And seeing them learning to become the person they are now makes me happy. Lightsong!!!! He made me smile so much. Urghhh thinking about him makes me tearing up. He convinced himself that he's not a god or a good one at that, but the others saw the opposite. His every words was funny. His interactions between Llarimar were hilarious. Then that happened. Well, it has been emphasised many times about this ‘god giving up their life to heal or save one person' thing, but I didn't expect that to be his fate! Oh man... I can't 😫. Lightsong... I love you man.
Bottom line, I'd give this book 10/5.
In this book we were introduced a new character, Will that very different from Lyra. He was forced to grow up faster that other kids because of his situation. Where Lyra was mischievous and impulsive at times, Will was levelheaded and calm. And Lyra saw Iorik Byrnison within Will that made her trust him wholeheartedly.
I was very surprised how attached I was to Will's character.
Human vs Authority. Kinda mind blowing.
This book did not went the way I thought it would.
The reason the monster came to Coner, the stories it told, the struggles within Coner... they really opened my eyes to the suffering of those whose left behind, and the strength that the ones that would leave have to muster in front of their loved ones. Heartbreaking.
There was a lot going on in this book. I honestly didn't think that the job could be done through book one and the entire series would revolve around throwing the Final Empire. Makes me anticipate what will be waiting for me in the next two books.
The story was very addicting and kept thinking about this book when I'm not reading it! And I love every single characters. I often found myself smiling reading their banters. I'd say Breeze is my favourite. And of course Kelsier. Oh, and Sazed! Ham and Spook were very funny. That scene when they spoke Spook dialect! I was laughing my ass off. I kinda like Club too. His mysterious aura kinda grown in me. Dockson, he's seems like a father to the crew. Vin, this cute little stubborn lass. She's annoying sometimes but at the same time she's very endearing.
The revelation about the Lord Ruler, boy i did not see that coming. That was incredible.
The thing about this series is that I wasn't really into the story—that's why I avoid scifi—but the books always managed to make me feel things in the last moment!
4.5/5
Ohh..these characters are so interesting. Their stories are compelling in their own ways, but I'd to pick, glokta, —the literal meaning of i-don't-give-a-fuck but still mantaining subservient facade—is my favourite and then logen, a big softie with a suppressed bloodthirsty side. Well, luthar—an asshole that looks down on everyone except ardee—was not so bad. And then, there're the magi, ferro, the old man that guided ferro, i like them all!
I was hoping it would be a dark and twisted retelling since the author uses siren instead of mermaid, but... I mean it was okay but it didn't exceed my expectations.
Reread
How could I give this book 3 stars before?!!
....
It was my first time reading this type if books where we followed the protagonist from when he was young. The slow-paced story, formal writing style, I'd have to say i struggled i bit throughout the book. But as the story goes I've come to like Fitz, the bastard, our protagonist training to become a royal assassin. I was under different impression of the type of assassin he was training to be and expected a bit of action here and there. Nevertheless, i quite enjoy the book.
