Lee Child can move a plot. Because I'm not a fan of the fantasy genre I skim read this one.
I'm not as enthused about this book as most reviewers. The story arc has promise but the telling slogged with lots of repetition in the middle. I was able to skim several pages at a time without loosing any of the plot, especially sections of courtroom narrative.
What a unique, beautifully written book. I usually loose patience with time shifting plots but this one is so skillfully done that I was never sorry to follow the multiple story lines across time.
DNF audiobook at 50%. The premise was interesting, but it just felt like it dragged on and on I was bored
The plot is unremarkable and the narrator isn't able to provide any depth. I got bored and DNF at about 30%.
Interesting to read a book with Mormonism at its center during an election year that features an LDS favorite as a candidate. White's ability to shine a light on this religion while offering a moderately interesting mystery is an accomplishment.
I read this book because I wanted to start at the beginning of this famous series I'd heard so much about. I found the Lynley and Havers characters well drawn as individuals and interesting together. However the plot was familiar and the resolution unnecessarily voyeuristic. I'll read the next in the series to see if this is a fluke or a feature.
Wonderful story telling about a historical period of wrenching change. Excellent narration.
