Interesting plot and psychological study. While i liked the unpredictability, I did feel a bit whiplashed about 2/3 of the way through.
My first McEwan book; read it after seeing the film which is the reverse of what I usually do. It didn't matter in this case because I was so taken by his style of story telling.
Mostly predictable plot. Audiobook narrator's voice very irritating which may contribute to this low rating
This theme has been done better in other books but I kept reading thinking it would progress to a rich conclusion. It didn't but it was an honest portrayal of the complexities of life and relationship.
DNF just not in the mood for such sadness. The disorganization of the story telling didn't help.
This is a book with an interesting premise but I think the progress of the story was too slow, even repetitive. The ending was disappointedly familiar.
This is my favorite book and author. A poignant and sometimes heartbreaking story that stays with me still.
I finished this looong slog of a book only because of the fabulous male narrator

I finished this looong slog of a book only because of the fabulous male narrator
This plot could have been so good. Instead the book is slooow and insipid. Even great narration couldn't save it.
You can tell when you've read too many of an author's books - this one dragged with extended conversations
Well written interesting plot. I listened to the audiobook which helped keep my interest.
Actually 3.5 stars. I'm just a SW fan and enjoy the psychological aspects of his writing.
I listened to the audiobook which helped me appreciate the author's life story. I won't say it it a gripping read but I just kept listening til the end.
I don't usually like sci-fi but this had such great ratings I thought I'd try. It held my interest best when I gave up trying to figure out what was going to happen. I thought the ending was perfectly in line with the plot.
