Je suspecte Zviane d'être fan de l'excellent film d'animation Mind Game parce que j'ai retrouvé dans Football-fantasie le même rythme, la même énergie, le même génie un peu psychédélique.
3.5 stars. A bit too many twists and turns that led to a satisfying if slightly unbelievable ending. Unnecessary and frustrating love interest. Gratuitously graphic at times, even if I do believe the author did it to prove a point.
This was so tragic and beautiful. A perfect southern drama with just enough thriller to keep you on the edge of your seat but also exploding with human emotion.
The ending was incredibly satisfying but the large majority is a chore to get through.
Still, an achievement.
Read a french translation a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely. I have never seen the movie and don't really intend to.
I was reading to find this ridiculous (horror poems??) but wow was I wrong. I will be keeping this nearby and rereading it often.
Everybody hated this book but I kinda loved it. It's dark and twisted and the whole scene with Green Lantern is cruel and hilarious. Not to mention how absolutely gorgeous it looks. If you like your batman a bit lighter and family-friendly, stick to Adam West and the gang. If you can take a joke and do not faint at the sight of blood, you'll enjoy the s*it out of The Boy Wonder.
3 1/2 stars, might go up to 4 once I digest it.
I can't believe how long it took me to finish this book, considering it's by one of my favorite authors.
Watch for a full video review on my youtube channel (Sang d'encre) very soon.
I think thrillers are not for me. This one felt manipulative and dumb. I took one star off for the absolutely ridiculous and predictable ending.
Oddly written and nothing happens for long stretches, just repetitive narrating from the most annoying protagonist I have yet to come across.
I strongly recommend the audiobook, recorded with an amazing full cast.
Entertaining, with just enough science, drama, action and intense emotions to keep you fully invested. And that epilogue!!!!
I really struggled to get through the first half... It was slow and seemed pointless, even though I was enjoying the writing. Thankfully things considerably pick up later in the book as the supernatural takes up more and more space. The romance did not bother me, and the gang made me feel like I was a teenager again.
I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. For once, it was worth believing the hype!
I absolutely loved this book, with all my twisted little heart. I wanted to go back and read it again as soon as I finished it, I didn't want to leave its world behind me. Joe Hill signs his best work to date and wow, what a trip it is!! I have to admit that the ending did feel a bit rushed and some characters did not quite get the spectacular finish I was hoping for... but honestly, that was a minor annoyance next to the ridiculous amount of fun I had while reading NOS4A2. I already cannot wait for Joe Hill's next story.
This just might be the scariest book I have ever read. It is brilliantly told and fascinating as much as completely terrifying.
It did bother me that Susannah is clearly from a wealthy family, and she had very good health insurance which is absolutely not the case for everyone. To her merit, she addresses this near the end of the book and acknowledges that she was one of the lucky ones.
Very interesting. This is one of the reasons I choose to not have children... a very scary portrait of the world kids evolve in surrounded by marketing strategies and cyber-bullying.
It started out incredibly slow and I lost interest within the first few chapters... took me months to read the first part and 2 days to read the rest. It was well worth it in the end.
I really was not sure about the crude art at first but it completely suits this bittersweet story.
