This is one of the saddest, most shocking and bewildering books I've ever read. And I've read a lot. After reading the book, I even felt hostility towards the author. Right from the beginning, I have come to empathize and sympathize with the protagonist who is on a journey to meet his father. Along the way, I would silently cheer whenever he overcomes any obstacles on his path. And as his destination looms closer, I would silently and sincerely hope for him to hold on just a bit longer. And he did. But then comes the most unexpected revelation at the ending. Sad. Shocking. Bewildering. Even now, two years after I read the book, I am still reeling with the impact it (the story) had on me.
A great book by a great author.
