This book was a solid 3 stars
The drawings in it was a pleasant surprise and I breezed through this book, finishing it in 2 days.
However...the author very clearly wanted certain things to happen which makes some scenes feel rushed. Sometimes the characters would go on rants, talking out loud while they should be thinking (or atleast; it would've been beter in text, not dialogue)
This was a fun little book though, would very much recomend it as a quick read.
V.E. Schwab will be the death of me.
The way I'm hugging this book right now its- I need a moment

I'd say that I'm a little disappointed...for a book written in 2023 there where some bits that made me cringe. They mention a mentally challenged child once or twice and in the end you learn that he did it during, what I assume to be, an autistic meltdown? it also really just felt like a poorly transelated, barely edited fanfiction
Solid 3☆
Went a little slow for me and I dislike the instant love trope ALOT, but I absolutely love the magic system in this book
For now this is a dnf
Expected this book to grip me but there are too many words and too little action
So uhm
IM IN LOVE
How do you expect me to continue living my life knowing I can't ever read this for the first time ever again huh
Genuinely loved every single fucking character in this book. The badguy doing a little twirl? Got me there honestly. Even if Fox D'Mora is in Death's words: “a right little shit” he has crawled up to sit right next to Alex Easton on my favorite character list.
This book, was so incredibly good, I'm positively crying and I need the second book asap.
Shoutout to the lady at Waterstones, because she was definitely so so right about this book being good
This book annoyed me in the same way Slasher fan characters in slasher movies annoys me, but I think that's part of its charm
Most of this book felt like I was following a class at school. There was so much to learn about the world and its magic system and I much more preferred the scenes where they where away from the school.
Not sure if I'll read the other comming books of this series because I felt like it had an alright ending for me to stop at.
3.5
Overal a good book! Liked the characters alot, the only thing that's making me not give it 4☆'s is the sexual scenes. But that's honestly more of a personal ick
God I love me a good creepy saphic found family ish type book
Must say that I saw the ‘twist' comming from a mile away tho
Quick and easy read with a good message, was my first graphic novel in awhile and I think it's a good one to start with!
Szabo can make such interesting worlds and creatures,,,but the writing and actions they make their characters do is seriously lacking or cringe worthy. Its sad, because I feel like their worlds do have serious potential.
I didn't need to read about Jesse stripping, or exploring their female body. The fact that they can shift their gender is definitely interesting, but Jesse's struggle with their gender/pronouns feels like an afterthought; it's just sprinkled in sometimes. The constant misgendering of Turing is also really upsetting.
It is also odd to me that in the 2 books I've read from Szabo, everyone just....wants the main character? The mc is an instant like for most other characters, and usually this like is sexual.
The last book I read by them (What Big Teeth) wasn't great but some qoutes in it made up for it a little bit, this sadly doesn't have that.
Couldn't say I cared much for the characters, which made the final pages not too interesting.
Absolutely loved the concept of the book and the parts with the devil where written well! But then there is the part where the writer tries to make it a semi-romantic book which felt very much unnecessary.
Didn't love it, didn't hate it.
I'm not entirely sure what to think of this book yet?
It definitely started a little slow and I absolutely fcking HATED the scenes with Virgil and Howard, some men are so disgusting
2.5☆
This book started very very promising by making me cry within the first 2 pages,,,tho getting further in the MC just started to annoy me.
The idea and the world of this book is really interesting but it's just too slow paced for me. I might pick it back up eventually but for now it's a DNF
