I picked up this book after I randomly watched the series on Netflix. I fell in love with the concept it introduced with the red notebook. It reminded me of scavenger hunts which I really enjoy. A lot of the magic of this book is this concept because most of the characters are pretty flat. Whilst I really enjoyed Dash' snarly character (it just worked) Lily reminded me of a child which was annoying and it was hard to just ignore.. I didn't expect the characters to experience the mature “life can be disappointing” when they actually meet each other for the first time and I kind of appreciate it feeling realistic.
If you are looking for a cute whimsical Christmas love story .. Dash & Lily's book of dares will give you what you want. I gave it a good rating, keeping the ‘fun and easy read' genre in mind. And hey! It's almost Christmas ;-)
A guest in the house was a fascinating, thrilling graphic novel to read! I felt enveloped by the story and the stunning art. Though I must admit that once or twice I was a bit confused by the events. But was also very impressed by how mysterious and exciting it was. I always wanted to know what hidden mysteries were going to be revealed. The horror atmosphere is done incredibly well, which is very impressive because creating such tension through drawings is very hard to do!
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this if you are a fan of the horror / paranormal genre!
This was one of the first manga I ever owned. I found it in a supermarket in France during our vacation when I was young. Kare first love made me fall in love with the beautiful drawings and inspired me to draw. Now at 34 I still draw and became an illustrator. I always think back to this manga with wonderful memories.
I love the heartwarming story and characters! The drawings have so much emotion and are very beautiful. I have the entire collection :) now rereading again after a long time!
This book had everything I wanted it to have! A cute romance, fun characters, beautiful art and a lovely story!
I loved this graphic novel so much! It took me on a nostalgic ride much like my own teenage school trip from years ago. The whole vibe felt the same and it was amazing to revisit it! I couldn't stop reading and so I read this in one go :) The art is wonderful and it fits the story perfectly. The storytelling was very good too, conveying emotion wonderfully and it almost felt as if you were there with the characters in France, Germany, Switzerland, England and so on.
Thank you for the ride, I sincerely loved it!
Interesting art style but the story and the way it was told felt too random and chaotic for me, which made it really hard to follow. Half of the time I wasn't really sure what the reasons were for some of the actions the main character took. Sadly I couldn't get myself to finish this graphic novel.
Spoilt creatures caught my attention because it was a story about a women's commune, I was automatically expecting a cult.. Even though it wasn't entirely like that. Words that come to mind when describing this book are: Raw, intoxicating and wild. The author's style of writing captured this feeling incredibly well. A few pages in I was immediately invested in the story, curious to see what unexpected turns and experiences Breach House would bring. I hope Amy Twigg will continue to make me fall in love with her books, if there will be more :)
This story was unlike anything I have ever read. It is provocative, strange and disturbing. I had a slight idea what to expect when I picked up this book and it definitely made true on it's promise. The writing style is something to get used to but it is so brilliantly used because the perspective is from a naive, unworldly young girl. You get to see the world as we know it through her eyes. Sometimes we all feel a bit like we don't belong but this takes the cake.
Some parts of the story were very repetitive but, my curiosity for what would happen next was too big to stop reading. I would recommend it if you aren't too squeamish and love disturbing, weird stories! :)
I wanted to love this so bad but it was incredibly boring. The story took very long to develop and become interesting. The art was beautiful and I do like some of Tillie Walden's graphic novels, just not this one. I feel bad for giving it only 2 stars but if I feel like I have to force my way through the story then the book just isn't for me.. I hope a lot of other people get to enjoy it though! :)
Taproot was full of beautiful art and this was the best about it. I thought it was a cute little story but a lot happened so quickly and I was hoping for a bit more explanation, world / character building. It was really lacking in that department..Still I really enjoyed this! :)
The art was lovely but the story bored me to tears.. didn't finish the book. I wanted to love this more! :(
Spoilers ahead!
This story was incredibly wholesome and an interesting read. We get to peer into the mind of a young autistic boy who is writing the story “himself” accompanied by his minddrawings and notes. This makes the book quite unique. What starts as a murder mystery (of a dog) unravels into a heartbreaking story of having to live with autism and a devastating divorce messing up a young child's life. I am glad I picked this book up from the shelves and I couldn't stop reading until I found out what was going to happen in the end.
Incredibly powerful in both the drawings and storytelling. I'm glad I picked this up in the bookstore. I couldn't stop reading and it made me feel a lot of things. It is a heavy story but definitely worth the read.
