“Since I can't have you, I want to say, I have to become you.”
Race dysmorphia. Is there such a thing? Can one feel like the race they have been born into, is incorrect? What if you could change your race via surgery, would you? These are the questions that the author grapples with.
This is a deep and thought provoking novel. It was interesting to get inside the minds of those who feel like they are an imposter among people that visually/racially look like them. I was impressed that the author dealt with white privilege, so honestly.
“Look at any monocultural society. Privilege flees from itself. Whiteness flees from itself. Can't you see that's what I am doing?”
“Why would I choose that? Why would I step out of the circle of belonging, where I've always been? The gilded prison house of Whiteness, with its electric fences, its transparent walls? Being the most visible, therefore the most hated, of all? The one that can always condescend, not the one condescended to? Reader, doesn't the question answer itself?
I would recommend this book, highly!
Do you follow society or go against society and risk being seen as a foreign object? This story provides an interesting take on these questions.
Excellent read. Many tips that I can incorporate. I believe in the power of being clear on what you want and having the faith that it will happen.

I was really enjoying this book until the end. What in the patriarchal hell? On another note, I was able to figure out the solution the characters would take, pretty quickly.

Novel is definitely a slow burn. The pace didn't pick up until the last 100 pages. However, I didn't see the twists coming. The ending could have been flushed out more.

Good storyline but imagery left much to be desired.
I probably will not follow this series.

Brinkley is incredibly deft at creating short stories that capture your imagination and transport you into the actual storyline. I found the prose of some of these stories, to be superbly lyrical - at times, I had to really stop and appreciate, the imagery and emotions evoked by the lyricism.
A black mans truth, pain and ramblings. I felt the intensity of his words (I listened to the audio book). This book of poems is on the way to me, as we speak. I will refer back to these poems, again.
I am new to Louise Penny, but I can honestly say, I am in love with this writer. She is an awesome storyteller. The description of the location, where the story took place, just beautiful. It had me take a look at Travelocity, to see the cost of visiting, Charlevoix, which I plan to do. This is the best story I have read all year. Full character development and storyline. I relished the story. A love story/mystery, it doesn't get any better than that. I will purchase this book to add to my library.

Gritty, Raw, and Triggering
Poetic short stories/letters about significant periods/experiences in the authors life meant to reveal herself to her children and ex husband.
Author transforms the simplest words in to hard hitting, impactful sentences.
It took me 13 days to finish this book. That says a lot! I fought through to the end. Nice story but nothing captivating. I am glad to be done.

Pretty predictable but I still loved it. Engrossed, from the very first page!
I enjoyed this story. However, it seems there is a template to this one and the first story in the series. Storyline was a tad predictable, due to said template. Either way, I was engrossed and entertained.
