I really wanted to DNF this book. I've heard a lot about Freida McFadden and her books and was excited to ready a mystery. The first couple chapters were okay and I like that there were flashbacks from the incident. After that it was one dumb decision after another. Brooke made lots of questionable choices, especially involving her child. I don't think she would win mother of the year award.
This was a great quick read! I went into it thinking it was a love story, as the cover would suggest. However I feel like I missed something because there was never really anything forming a relationship between Hazel and Jack, so it was more of a off the pages love. This story really stuck to focusing on Hazel finding herself and staying true to her beliefs and her dreams. It seemed a little rushed in the end and could have done with a few more pages drawing out her relationship with Jack and the mystery that brought them together. All in all it was a good book and I hope the second one will be better!
It does start off a little slow, but it goes well into detail about buildings and clothing and the history. I kind of zoned out at some parts, but once I got past all of that I started to enjoy the book more. I like that each chapter alternates from the past and the future, and that kept my interest going. I feel that this first book is a great build up of Tea and her magic and the relationships she has with the people around her. Makes me excited to start the second book!
This book started off well. I enjoyed the characters of Sabine and Wolf and how their relationship grew. Sabine's powers were interesting and I loved how she made friends with the animals along the way and how they supported her and gave her comfort.
I really wanted this book to live up to the hype, but I honestly struggled to finish the book. I felt there was a lack of character development and description. I think Misery might have had blonde hair? All I remember is that the vamps had purple eyes and blood. I also thought there were some contradictions throughout the book. This supposed rivalry between vamps and weres; the wolves were basically the top of the food chain and the vamps were at the bottom as they had nothing going for them. The vamps were pretty much just weak humans with a taste for blood. So to me it was strange how a big bad wolf was scared of a vamp who could only bare their fangs. It had promise, and hopefully (with how this book ended) if there is a second book the author will do a better job with creating characters.
