So, I'm not sure it's such a big deal that the author has figured out that or DNA spells out God's name... I think all of his other messages in this book are what's important. It's important to care about the future of human existence, and to start thinking ahead, if we want human kind to realize its full potential. I believe one of the most powerful points he made was that if humans are going to live for many more generations to come, our best strategy is cooperation, not competition. Thought provoking book!
What an awesome adventure story, mostly because it's true!!! And I live in Oklahoma! I've seen old (super old) video of these boys' dad, Jack Abernathy catching wolves with his bare hands with Teddy Roosevelt. That was awesome. But then to find out that his boys, at just ages 5 and 9 traveled by themselves on horseback all over the USA, that is just amazing.
It definitely brings up the question of whether we coddle our children a little too much, and don't give kids enough credit for what they are capable of if we would just give them the room to do so.
This is such an easy read, only 162 pages. You should read it!
The ending just didn't fit with the story. It could have been so much better.... it could have still ended the way it did, but it needed to happen a different way to be believable!
Such a surprisingly wonderful book. I think it takes some serious talent to make a hard criminal into an endearing and deeply rich character. The transformation of all the characters was inspiring. I can't seem to make up my mind about which ending I like better. The original ending fits, but who can't help but enjoy the happier one he ended up putting in its place?
I'm very glad I took the time to read this book. :)
Another great science book for the pre-school/Kindergarten/Elementary ages. My son is still talking about this book a week later!
Great book, again, makes you think until your brain hurts! I really needed this book to shake me up in what I believe. If you want a different glimpse of hell, this is the book for you...
If you feel like you have a baby who is hard to please, you should read this, you may just find out that you a high needs child! My middle kids is a high needs kid, and this book helped me keep my sanity, and really understand what all the screaming was all about. I love Dr. Sears' parenting approach too.
This was a great book! It brings out what is really important and necessary in life. A great journey to read about!
This book was great, but it took me a while to read, because there is so much to think about in each chapter, I had to take time to let each one sink in. A very hopeful book that clearly communicates how a new world can be possible.... I'd recommend it to anyone, but you have to be ready for a pretty deep read!
This book was my “red pill”. I've never been able to look at Christianity the same way after reading this book. The second one was even crazier and I had to put it up for a while, because it was rocking my world way too much. If you are brave, and not afraid for your beliefs to be challenged, examined, tested, then you have GOT to read this book. If not, take the blue pill and pretend nothing ever happened!
This is a great devotional book! It's been a long time since I've found a devotional book that I really liked and actally took me somewhere spiritually. But this one did. It takes a look at poverty, and our heart's condition towards it. A very good one, I would recommend to any Christian!
I loved reading the original manuscript. Such a lovely thing to read during the holidays. :)
I thoroughly enjoyed he way the information was laid out in this book, and appreciate the simple, symbolic explanations of very complex processes and information involving the brain. I would recommend this book to all my educator friends whether they teach in public school or at home. To my Christian friends, you might want to be aware that there is lots of evolutionary talk, so if you are easily offended by this, you might want to skip this one.
I can always trust Amanda Hocking for a good page turner that I have to finish in one night!
Nice Biography of Benjamin Franklin. We read this for my son's history. Looking forward to reading some other books like this from Jean Fritz.
So disappointed. I wanted a little more resolution at the end of this one than was there. If there are no plans for another book to resolve things, then this is a terrible book to end on. If there are plans for more, I seriously want some issues worked out and some answers in the next book, or I'm going to be too bored to continue. BLAH.
What just happened? Did I finish this book? I think I did.
I'm still trying to decide my opinion of this book. I've never read a memoir quite like this. It leaves me.... well, unable to come up with a concrete rating. I've rated it 3 stars for now, I may come back and change that after I've had time to let it all soak in. :)
After reading this I can see exactly why Christian publishers freaked out over this book. Did I freak out? No. To be honest, I get really tired of people freaking out when someone believes or discovers something that is contrary to their own thoughts and beliefs. This book deserved to be published!
Saying that, did I completely agree with everything in this book and believe it all as “Truth”? Not exactly. Did I find lots of inspiring views, along with things I need to think through on my own? Yes. Did I feel challenged by what I read? Yes.
Mostly, I have found myself contemplating and experiencing MANY of the things that Jim has in this book, and I took great comfort in the fact that I'm not alone.
If you are close-minded, you will hate this book. You will think it's evil. You should go ahead and skip it.
If you keep an open mind, want to follow Jesus, and like seeing things from a new point of view, then you should read this book! You might just like it. :)
I read this one to my daughter, back when she was 4 or 5 for bedtime. She seemed to like it!
Liked: Looking at the world through a young boy's eyes in the 1930s.
Disliked: The poor animals aren't treated very well in this book!
What will stick with me: Nathan and Tom's relationship with their father will give me a lot to ponder.
