Thi was a good book. It had moments where it was dragging or where things were taking too long but it was enjoyable. I liked that potions were the main magic system and not just normal elemental powers
It was ok
This book was alright. At times it felt like the story was just dragging. I felt myself trying to guess the motivation behind everything. I made 2 guesses at the ending and 1 of them was correct. I felt as if the book should have ended after everything transpired during the storm. The rest of the book just felt more long and drawn out and probably would have been better without the final chapters
This was an amazing book. No movie has been able to.capture the amazing story housed within these pages
This book could have been so much better but it was so rushed. While I understand that it is a very short book the things feel like it all happened in a snap and not in a good way
If I cold have given it 0 stars I would
In shirt this book was terrible. Its pacing was terrible and everything happened so fast and it was confusing at times. It felt like the author was just adding stuff as they went along forgetting what they wrote previously.
1 example is when did Damon become friends with Brent and Jackson? Jordan talked to Brent about him but it never occurred to him to say that's his friend? There is one chapter that says its supposed to be Emory but its actually in Jackson's perspective. And they kept saying in the end Emory was hiding her pregnancy from Jackson when 1 she just found out because she had a lupus flare and 2 she was trying to call him and talk to him and he was ignoring her phone call. She even went to go see him twice and he wasn't listening to her. Now miraculously she was intending to hide a pregnancy. Then my question was the whole family and friends were there and found out about her having lupus and being pregnant but you were only there for the lupus reveal? If she really was intending to hide it why would she tell Brent someone she knew would talk to Jackson because they are friends! The book makes no sense 0 stars. I wnt be reading the sequels or recommending this book!
Eh
I came into this book trying to forget everything about the movie but at times the book is so out there and different it forces you to think about the movie and compare the differences
Eh
There were so many thing that were ok but so many wrongs. I felt like the relationship happened way too fast. I felt like he was very irrational the majority of the time. Also sometimes it felt like the plot of dealing with his mother and his feelings for David were switched out almost like they could have been 2 separate books/stories.
This book had great ideas but in the end it comes up short. No character is completely flushed out. Lena is supposed to be hiding who she really is but tells stories about her father at each turn. Finding her mother during this all made no sense and the ending and the motives felt like the author didn't know where to take the story so they just did whatever in the end. And there are some things gs that are never explained like Lena's box coming up missing. It's never talked about again it just disappears never to be seen or thought about again
This book was not at all what I expected. Each character was flat and lacked personality. It lacked emotion and at times, while things were like that back then, it felt like certain things happened only so the author didn't have to write the reunion and quickly get to the end of the book. For the subject matter I felt no emotions being genuinely conveyed. It just felt like the author tried to make you feel something but it was unsuccessful. The ending was flat and was very much a WTF moment. If the story had really pulled off the emotion I expected the ending would have been an amazing one.
Being in the customer service industry there were so many things that he spoke about that I understood 100%! I loved this book until it got to the last 15-20% especially the last chapter. I hated the twist ending and wished the author did something else with the ending. And while I hated Clyde and didn't agree with what they did to him, he got off too east and didn't get what he deserved
This book is a nod to 80s horror and it wa amazing! The way the story was and the setup and the slight humor was enjoyable. It was a fast read but an great read!
Not a great read
The book feels like the author had a night of benge reading/watching the hunger games, divergent and researching the movie birth of a nation. All those things together does not make for a good book. The book is filled with prejudice and racist remarks and while I understand why they were used they were at times unnecessary. There are times when the author starts to reveal something but then never goes back to it or fully explains what's happening. I guess this is a setup for a series but I'm hoping it goes no further. The ending did not make me want to know more it left me on a stale dry note
Knowledge of language
This was a great book. The story was very interesting especially with its use of language and magic. I think some of the explanations could have been left out at times but I appreciated them being there to help me immerse myself within the story
Surprisingly good
This was my first time reading a willow rose book. I had it for a long time on my kindle since I got it for free. It was surprisingly good. Nice pacing and an easy read. I wanted more to happen to William but that's just my opinion. My problem was the ending. I felt like the way it ended was bitter sweet and was kind of unnecessary conflict. Will I read book 2? Not quite sure yet
I really wanted to like this book but in the end it just wasn't for me. The switching of timeliness was cool but there was so much going on at times the story gets disjointed and pulled me out of it. I would say this book does make me want to learn to make a black cake though lol
Half a star
I came in really wanting to like this book but it just wasn't enjoyable. At times you can tell its more than one person writing the book. There are times the writers forgot what they previously wrote and the story takes a turn. There is also times when the main character is told something by one character but its like she doesn't hear it until another character says the same thing and she never acknowledged she was already told this. This book was a huge no for me and I don't think I would read more of their work. The best part of the book is it was free due to getting it on Amazon first reads
This book was great. It gives you a cozy warm feel when reading it. I paced myself because I didn't want to breeze through the book. I wanted to fully enjoy the story so I read it slowly. Viv and her story was amazing. I really loved how everything she needed came to her at the times she needed them. My favorite character will be Thimble and all his baking. I say find a relaxing place curl up by a fire and get your favorite cup of bean water and enjoy the story!
Disappointed
I was excited about this book when I read the synopsis. I was so excited when I started this book but the excitement didn't last. At times I just wanted this book to be over. I found myself just trying to figure out who the enemy was as a way to keep me reading. There were a lot of interesting parts if the book. Parts like finding out a glimpse of the victims lives before they were taken and finding out the history of the jackal but as a whole this book did not keep my attention. I enjoyed the authors writing style and ideas for this book. I would give another book from the author a read but this wasn't the book I hoped but would be
This was such a great book! It reads like a setup for a hero movie. I saw some reviews of people saying it was very political, which it was however it was filled with the politics of their world, San Madrigal, and was very necessary for the story. The way Mateo and Chela come full circle into their powers was done brilliantly. There are some things that I didn't like. I didn't understand why one of the twins just completely disappeared from the story or why the writer didn't fully flesh out Tia Lucia's warning about Chela. At first I was going to rate it a 4 but the last chapters of the book the story kicks into high gear and it made it a 5 for me!
