This was an excellent read, but gosh it was so heartbreaking and depressing at times!
It was so tough to read at times that I honestly felt like walking away from it.
I read David Copperfield prior to this and it's sad to see that some things really haven't changed between then and now.
Saying that, I enjoyed the parallels between this and David Copperfield, not just in terms of characters but the odd quote here and there too.
It was dark, sad, heartbreaking and tough so whilst I do recommend it, I would urge caution because something like that might not be for everyone.
Thank you to PH and Barbara Kingsolver for the chance to read this book.
This was a brilliant book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading! The evocative style of writing used by the author really bought the characters to life. So much so that with one particular character you really wanted to reach into the pages and literally throttle said character. I read this on the Pigeonhole app and I don't think I've ever seen a character evoke such strong feelings of dislike amongst me and my fellow readers! It just goes to show how well the characters were written that it evoked such feelings in us as readers.
The story itself was brilliantly written with plenty of twists and turns. It also wasn't without its fair share of heartbreak, which literally broke your heart.
I would highly recommend this book to fellow readers.
Brilliant, brilliant read that I thoroughly enjoyed reading! The characters were so likeable and relatable to. The writer made you wish you were actually friends with the characters involved. Added to that was the sense of humour which made it an excellent read. The other thing that made it so likeable was the whole feeling of community spirit (I love when that kind of thing is involved in a story)!
I read it on The Pigeonhole, where they release a stave (a few chapters per day) and that meant that after I'd read a day's chapters, I couldn't wait for the next days to be released!
I would definitely recommend this book to others!
I read this book years ago, after being recommended it by an Aunt. I remembe that much, but I'd forgotten what it was about so I had to re-read it.
I'm so glad I did because, oh my gosh, what a story! It was so beautifully written and so heartbreakingly sad throughout. I actually cried reading it.
Apart from the story itself, what really got me was the descriptions of Afghanistan when Amir returns all those years later. The difference between the Afghanistan he knew as a child, to the one he comes back to couldn't have been more striking.
It was an utterly gripping read, which had me hooked from start to finish.
I would highly recommend this book.
Not that I didn't find that an intriguing read, but that took forever to finish! I have to admit the twisted, evil use of technology in the book made me shudder! Loved Jane, such a strong, brave and courageous woman who'll stop at nothing to get to the truth! Look forward to reading the next book in the series.
