this line alone made me not want to continue “black ants like Negro slaves, red ones like Arabs”
A quick an action packed graphic novel. It reminds me of power rangers but with masks. I really enjoyed my time reading this, I do wish I was longer though. I wish we had more time with the characters to get to know them. I will be looking forward for future publishings in this series. I am very intrigued and want more.
this is the literary equivalent of a train wreck. as much as i want to stop reading, i couldn't.
Thank you netgalley for the advanced readers copy for this book in exchange for an honest review.
This....... it ain't it chief.
I went into this book looking for a well written poetry book but what i got was a mediocre poetry collection.
The writing wasn't good. It felt like the author was just focused more on rhyming than the actual flow of the poems. Like in most of the poems one line would make complete sense and i liked but then in the next i would be like what???
As a Christian I did like that most poems talked about God. But that's the only thing i actually liked.
I personally would not recommend..
CW: racism, colorism, body shaming, fatphobic comments, sexism, and death of loved one (past)
This is bOOK!! I don't even know where to start. I think I need a few days to think about what to say. But y'all I think I found my book boyfriend
Better than the first part tbh, it's probably because all the action was in this part. I enjoyed it.. I may or may not have cried a bit
TW: Rape, Abuse, Misogyny, War, Mentions of the Holocaust, and Discrimination against Jews.
This book was so emotionally draining that I still cry about the ending. I don't have words to express the love I have for this book. The writing was phenomenal and I loved and connected so much with the characters. I felt like if I was there with them through it all.
I know this is a short review compared to my other ones. I think I said everything that needed to be said. Go read this book if you're not triggered by any of the things I mentioned.
As a Dominican woman I have never read a book about someone that is Dominican. I haven't seen myself in a character like I did when I read this book. I bet y'all already know what I'm giving this book.
5/5☆
The writing was beautiful, The whole book is written in verse and all of the verses make a story. I loved the fact that there was parts that were in Spanish and that the Spanish words weren't italicized. In every book that has a Latinx character, when they speak in Spanish it's always in italics. And this one tiny detail means so much to me and I know it means alot to other Spanish speaking readers.
I loved the characters, Xiomara, Xavier, and Caridad were my babies. Bro I even lowkey loved the parents. I saw myself in both Xiomara and Caridad because I've had that part in my life where I wasn't into going to church I questioned everything. My parents wanted me to do one thing when I wanted to do another. Almost everything Xiomara was going through I've gone through too. Y'all Dominican parents don't play, they crazy. But I see myself now like Caridad where she made a choice to go to church and is so caring and always has her friends back no matter what.
I am so happy this book exists because now Latinx teens can have a character to relate too. I didn't have someone like that almost every book I read as a kid were about white kids. And even though I did see a bit of myself in some of them. But it's different when you can fully see your self being represented in a book. And that's beautiful!
Representation is important.
tw: mentions of sexual harassment, animal abuse, self-harm, murder
I really enjoyed this short story. It made me really excited to pick up the leavers by the same author. I loved Lisa Ko's writing.
WHAT. THE. HEEEEEEECCCKKKKK!!!
I don't know what just happened but i'm not mad about it.
i'm going to do a review on my channel soon but until then i'll leave you with this....

hands down my new favorite amanda lovelace poetry collection. i lowkey cried while reading this one. as someone who isn't completely interested in marrying or having children, this made me feel so seen. this is a collection that i will be passing to my sister to read so she can also feel empowered also. also, the illustrations in this were GORGEOUS!!!
“Finn this is a dangerous thing”

This was an insightful little book with nuggets of wisdom. However, I will say that I wish this book wasn't so lowkey fatphobic and ableist when talking about staying healthy and active... Other than that, I will be implementing some of these tips and practices in my daily routine!
tw: war, Islamophobia, hate crime.
i don't even know how to begin to describe my love for this book. this story and characters that jasmine warga has created. it was equally heartbreaking and wholesome. it's perfect for people (especially kids) of all ages to read.
tw: blood, violence, and racism (japanese towards koreans)
this book was so bland. the main characters only personality traits were his fist. the female love interest was the typical ✨i'm not like other girls✨. the only character i liked was jeong il.... let's not talk about that. i did find the nationality conversation in this book really fascinating but that's basically about it.
I buddy read this book with @bookteafull (on Instagram) and it was really interesting. She reads a lot of sci-fi.... I don't. It was interesting to see what she thought of certain parts as a sci-fi reader. She figured out the majority of the plot twist about half way in. When in the other had I didn't, I was completely shooked. I will admit, I did guess one of the things because it was pretty obvious. We both really enjoyed it and think it's a pretty good Sci-Fi beginner book.
This book is a very plot driven book everything happened so fast and there was so much action happening. But I didn't connect with the characters and I love reading books about characters I can connect with. I did feel bad for some of the characters but in general the characters were pretty bland.
Overall I really liked this book and totally recommend it!
I didn't think I'd feel so seen and understood in a book that is 50 pages. I ended up crying tears, not of sadness but rejoicing in seeing a part of myself being put into words. A piece of myself that I might've not been fully aware of, and that is beautiful. I can foresee this being a comfort read that I revisit when I need a boost of serotonin.
CW: death of a parent, parental abandonment, biphobia, biphobic attacks sexual assault, rape, racism, murder, domestic abuse, mentions of suicide, and attempted suicide
I read this via audiobook and I recommend it as a way to read this story. The author has such a beautiful writing style that made me want to continue picking it up. I found myself caring for Benny and the complexities of her story. She is a queer woman that just wants her coffee shop and to be loved. Byron is such an interesting character, he is hard to like at first. But then, you can see has he develops as the story progresses.
I started loving this book up until halfway through. There were so many different characters that I just kept confusing them all. By the end of the story, I didn't remember the majority of them. The author tried to take on so many things at once that it just felt confusing by the end of it. I mean this could just be me thing. I recommend you to read it and make your own opinions.
I still really enjoyed my time reading it and would recommend it. Especially if you like messy familial dramas filled with secrets and interesting character dynamics.
CW: death, graphic murder, blood, death of loved ones, mention of rape, abuse, torture, slavery, self-harm, attempted rape.
no one talk to me for a week. I can't wait to read the rest of the series with ali.
CW: racism and microaggressive behavior towards latine people.
YALL I AM CRYING THIS BOOK WAS SO PRECIOUS
CW: pregnancy, death, murder, rape, fatphobic comments, sexual assault, attempted suicide
I'm in shambles no one look at me
