I haven't read a Tami Hoag novel in over a decade as life got in the way. I'm so happy that this was my re-entry book into her world. I thought I knew who did it, and kept doubting my resolve with each chapter. The end left me wanting more. I finished reading this book at work because I couldn't wait until I got home tonight. Definitely a good one.
I loved it and I've already started reading the second book in the series. I know there's a lot of critics out there, but for me, this book was great.
I had a really hard time with this one. I wanted to like the book and know more about the story but the writing was not great and made it hard to stay engaged. I would have liked to have more context of the world and how it works much sooner than when we actually start getting explanations of important mechanics. The character is hard to like and comes off as annoying rather than just honestly out of touch. I only got about a third of the way before giving up on this one.
