This one is my absolute favorite book of Gwen Frostic. The textured papers and vellum with beautiful artwork just amaze me. I love the small bits of what looks like her own handwriting. It matches her signature. Most of all though, this book has her best writing.
This book is full of beautiful artwork and observations of birds from all over Alaska. My favorite poem is “Ravens” by Ruth Murphy.
What if what you have been searching for has been right with you all along? This book was full of valuable insight for me and it isn't enough to read it one time. I have marked so many passages and bookmarked pages or chapters to return to. I want to go pack and put what he teaches into practice. I've found myself eager to tell others about it too. I read parts to my son and we sat one evening discussing it. That was a very satisfying discussion and I knew I wanted to be like the author's father as described in the first story in the book. I want to encourage my son to think, question and not just blindly follow others.
This book is full of stories of the authors experiences and kept my interest throughout.
I liked this book. The story kept my attention from start to finish and even though I had some ideas about who did it I wasn't entirely correct. I hate it when a story is too easy to figure out. This story really had me thinking through details and at times questioning everyone. This may actually be my new favorite in this series.
I read some reviews before I started this book, carefully avoiding spoilers, and I am so glad I didn't let them put me off. Some people rated this book very low and said they hated the ending. I guess it is kind of like people. Never trust another person's judgement when it comes to who or what you might like. It is best to decide that for yourself.
This is a great book following the Iditarod race of 2010. There is a map showing the trail and the stops along the way. The author took a unique approach in following those at the tail end of the race and describes their trials along the way. Many dreams were broken and tears were shed but there were also tales of amazing strength and courage to continue on. I also enjoyed reading about the connection between the mushers and their dogs. They are not just slave drivers and one person dropped out of the race because his dogs were unhappy. Throughout the book, there are chapter heads with a map outlining a section of the trail and you can read about what happened there and the mushers who ended up scratching or being withdrawn there. The end of the trail and the book has a history lesson about the original serum run and how it happened along with the story of the red lantern winner who was so happy to make it to Nome despite being last.
This book was really slow for me. I lost interest several times and actually read a few other books after starting it. I'm glad I got back to it because the end got better. I didn't like this one as much as the last couple books though.
This book is full of beautiful illustrations by Donni Giambroni. I don't what I love more the illustrations or the words. Both are so beautiful. This is one of those books that you can grab when you are feeling down and flip to any page. It will make you smile and change your mood for the better.
This was a cute little story about honesty, helping others, responsibility and having faith in your friends to do the right thing. Sometimes it is easy to jump to conclusions about something without knowing all the facts and then accuse someone of something that will leave a lasting wound.
I love the pictures and the artwork in this book. The poem is great and really makes me think about the current situation with Trump trying to block refugees from certain countries and religions. I hope the American Spirit hasn't changed and we can stand up to the terrorists without turning away those looking for the same security our fathers came here in search of.
I've never been a fan of romance novels so I would never have picked this book up if I hadn't seen a review posted during a book swap game I was participating in. I read the review for this book and decided I wanted to read it. I read the first book first and it was great. I liked it better than this one but this book kept my interest too. I like the mystery and suspense more than the lovey-dovey parts but I definitely will be finishing this series and looking into more books by this author. Now I have to make myself finish the other books I've started before reading the third book in this series.
I love the books that this pattern book is based on. I love the idea of working on patterns based on the characters or designs the characters were knitting or admiring in the book. The patters range from beginner to a a fair isle scarf and hat but most of the designs are not something I would wear or knit for a friend. I will have to think about these patterns and what I could do with yarn choice to make them into something more my style.
This book almost lost me at first. I was a little put off by some stuff in the beginning and I almost stopped reading it. It got better though and I had to know how it ended. I felt the ending was rushed compared to the rest of the book and could have been better. Still, I´m glad I finally read this book that has been on my bookshelf for over a decade. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could.
Lainey has been best friends with Farrell since grade school and she loves her kids Riley and Tim. At a Christmas party at their house she admires the life her friend has. She finally gets a job offer to design her own cartoon character and her career is about to take off when she gets a call that rocks her world. Her friend and her husband have died in a freak accident and Lainey had agreed to be their guardian if anything happened to them. She never thought anything would really happen and realized she had been too quick to agree to just drop her life and take care of her friends children in their own home. She does love the kids though and she did her best to juggle her job and take care of them while they are going through the trauma of losing both parents but she notices some things that bother her. She starts to wonder if it was really an accident that took her friends life.
I've learned a lot from this book and have really enjoyed the projects in it. There are some I have yet to make that are not my style but I plan to change them up a bit to be more to my liking. I like the illustrations, photos and for the most part the instructions were good. When I learning the wire wrapping part I did have to look up a video on Youtube to get it right but otherwise the instructions were good.
It took me forever to get into this book. The first part was very boring and I almost quit reading it. It finally got interesting enough to hook me so I had to find out how it ended. I decided to read this book because I have the 4th book in this series so I looked up the first book. Now I don´t want to read anymore. This series is about a duo of headhunters called Smith and Wetzon but Smith is a very unlikable, shallow, cardboard character. Wetzon isn´t very smart and some things seemed obvious but she was clueless. There were a lot of names thrown around throughout the book, clients or people Wetzon knew, and it was impossible to keep track of them all.
I liked this book but I think it's crazy that someone moved a huge mansion including the dead people buried under it to Pennsylvania. Why would you want dead people buried there that are not your ancestors? Why would you go through the trouble? I liked the build up of the story with them having 4 different ideas of what was going on but I felt like the ending was a little deflating. I was hoping for something more but I do kind of like the ending but wish there were something more and that it wasn't so sudden and brief. I would love to wander around in a big, old place like that and examine every part of it. I love the idea of researching the other owners and learning their stories. This book was definitely better than Black Rainbow.
I loved this story and all of its twists and turns. I am definitely going to read more books by this author. I've never read such an intriguing story!
I usually don't like romance but this book was more about the mystery and the romancy portions weren't too sappy.
Claire is a young business woman and she is meeting her father to help with a business merger. He wasn't expecting her though so he was very surprised to see her there at the Inn. Claire was sure she had never been there before but it somehow seemed familiar to her. When she looked out at the forest she found herself gripped by fear and panic. Later, she met some people that knew her by name. They said they remembered when she disappeared as a little girl and that she was missing for a full year and then reappeared. Claire wants to know more about what happened to her and where she was for that year. Her family tries to dissuade her from trying to learn more and won't answer her questions. She won't stop though because she has dark memories that haunt her. She needs to know the truth.
This book continues the story from The Walk.
Alan Christoffersen is on a journey, a soul searching walk across the US. He started in Seattle after he lost everything. His wife died, his partner stole his business, and his cars and home were repossessed. He was thinking about giving up and ending it all but something stopped him. Instead, he grabbed a map and figured out the farthest he could walk on land and set his sites on Key West Florida. At the end of The Walk he was attacked by a gang and serious injured. He ended up staying with a woman who he had helped on his walk. He fixed her tire and she gave him her card. He forgot all about it but when he was taken to the hospital that number was the only contact info on him. She came to help and offered him a place to stay while he healed. While he was there he realized he wasn't there for her to help him. She needed help herself.
After Alan was healed enough to return to his walk he saw young woman being attacked by a group of men. He helped her and she began to walk with him. After she finally talked about her situation his heart really went out to her. She was an abused child put in the foster system. She was nearly 18 and since she knew she was going to be on her own soon anyway, she ran away and was living on the streets. She was a great girl and didn't deserve her situation. Alan really wanted to help her.

This is a great soul-searching story for both the character and the reader. I found several little gems to add to my quote book. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series and continuing the journey along with Alan.
This was such a sad, sad story. I cannot imagine going though those things and well, wanting to get through it. Alan had a beautiful wife, his own ad company, a nice home and suddenly it was all gone. He decided to go on a walk, a long walk, across the whole continent. He set his sites to a place over 3,000 miles away. As he walked he did a lot of thinking and met some people who gave him more to think about. He doesn't finish his walk by the end of the book because something happened that required him to take a break. The book seems to end abruptly but it is the first in a series. It definitely gives a person plenty flood for thought. I'm glad I finally read it.
This book was especially interesting to me because it is about people from the Scottish Highlands and I am part Scottish. The people had come to America to settle near a mountain. One of the customs they brought with them was the use of a Sin-eater. The person was chosen by lot to take on the sins of the others after they died so they could go before God free of sin. The dead was laid out at the cemetery with a try carrying wine and bread. They believed the sin of the dead was absorbed into the food. At the end of the ceremony the people all turned their backs to the grave and the Sin-eater would come and eat the bread and drink the wine and then say a quick statement absolving them of their sin. The children were all warned not to look at the man or some of the sin in him might come upon them. The people all shunned the man and he had to live in the mountain all alone, alienated from his family and friends. When Cadi's grandmother died and she was at her funeral, Cadi heard sadness in the man's voice and couldn't resist looking. He looked like a normal man. She had a terrible guilt on her conscious since the death of her younger sister and decided she needed to find the Sin-eater and ask him to eat her sins now, before she died, to ease the burden of her soul. Her mother was only cold to her and she knew it was because she blamed Cadi for the lost of her favored child. At the same time a preacher of God came to the area and she heard him talking by the river. Cadi and an older boy went to see what he had to say even though they were told to stay away by the clan leader.
This story was interesting but I have a hard time believing the girl (Cadi) was only 10 years old. I think of kids of that age and this girl seemed so much older. Also, the things the preacher was saying was so scattered and it was all difficult language from the bible. I had a hard time following it but this 10 year old was able to understand and repeat it to others so that they understood as well. It really sounded like he was a crazy old man spouting nonsense but these two kids took it as gold and never questioned anything he said. That was difficult to believe but I did like the story anyway. I enjoyed the story about the cave and what they found there and how that story unfolded.
I was hoping for more from this book. Not that it was a bad book, it just wasn't as in-depth as I wanted. The section in the front about what foods to eat or to avoid is short leaving the majority of the book for recipes and meal plans. I can't use the recipes because I do the Ketogenic diet so I'll pass this book on to someone else how can use it. It is a nice looking book and the recipes looks good. There are several smoothie recipes that I would try if I wasn't doing Keto.
This book is full of facts about the Titanic and is interesting for anyone to read. I especially enjoyed the few black and white photographs. I wish I had this book when I was a kid.
This book was interesting but slow moving. My mind kept wandering and thinking about other books. I ended up stopping to read two other books before finishing this one. It finally picked up at the end and I was glad.
This book was so hard to read. The main character wasn't likable at all and many of the other characters were the same. I kept losing interest because the characters were so bad I didn't care what happened. The main character, Tal Jefferson, kept doing the dumbest things over and over. This is the first book in a series that I'm done with.
This was a great book! I got really sick while reading it but couldn't stop thinking about it. As soon as I was able I was reading until I finished. All of the details are great and the words painted a moving picture in my mind that kept me riveted till the end. This book is better than the first book, The Chase, and I can't wait to read the next book!
This is another book built around the railroad system and set in 1907. The Wrecker is sabotaging the railroad, blowing up tunnels, derailing trains, and constantly wreaking havoc with the help of well paid criminals and assassins. Issac Bell, Van Dorn's Top detective, has to figure out how to stop the wrecker before he strikes again and kills more innocent people.
