i admit that i decided to read this book after watching the series. and i'm glad to know that like the series, it pierces your soul in a painful way, but leaves a bitter pleasure. personally, both versions served as a reconciliation of my own emotions through other people's lives. i want to read it again for the first time.

I finished reading the book last night, and I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I found it quite entertaining that the story of the formation of a “company” during the fall of an empire is told in the form of semi-independent but continuous stories over time. I felt that each arc ended with a cliff-hanger that more or less closed by briefly telling you in the next one what had happened up to that point.
Also, I really liked that the main characters were so smart and always had a plan in case something went wrong for them. It was like Salvor Hardin, Ponyets and Mallow were spiritual heirs to Seldon. I also liked the feeling that often the action was not about wars, shootings, etc, but was described with intentions and the telling of the stratagem of the protagonists. It gave me the feeling that everything was solved with dialogue.
BUT, the protagonists are one-dimensional, their role is to find a crisis, be smart and solve it. There is hardly any personal stuff, they are like simple chess pieces that Seldon once saw how it would move. They have no other concerns.
And, finally, there are NO FEMALE CHARACTERS, not even the already flawed role of the damsel in distress. Well, there is one (1) female character who simply goes about showing her discontent at being married to someone she hates and being the target of a material gift. I can understand that at the time this story was written the female characters were not the main or most relevant, but seriously, IT IS THAT I ONLY INTRODUCED 1 CHARACTER.
Without a doubt what I liked most about this first book is the concept of psychohistory and Seldon himself and the way he develops his vision of science as religion, the danger of the influence of religions on governments, etc.

No es la primera vez que leo historias de ciencia ficción con invasiones alienígenas, pero desde luego es la que más me ha enganchado.
Altamente recomendable si te gusta la ciencia ficción, pero también las historias que invitan a profundas reflexiones, como el tratamiento de la ciencia, la ecología y la propia raza humana y su rumbo en este caso.

La segunda entrega tiene cosas que me han gustado más y que echaba en falta en la primera. Tiene una cierta continuidad en el tiempo, a diferencia de ‘Fundación' donde los saltos temporales eran algo habitual y obligaban a volver a familiarizarse con personajes y lugares nuevos cada cierto tiempo. Aquí los principales son siempre los mismos con lo cual, aunque cambie el contexto y aparezcan personajes nuevos momentáneamente, vuelves a ellos. Hay unos auténticos protagonistas. En este sentido, me ha gustado más, ya que se siente como una novela completa en vez de un conjunto de historias cortas (aunque para ser justos, tengo entendido que así fue pensada Fundación). He de reconocer que si bien el misterio acerca de la identidad de El Mulo era algo predecible, la forma en que se revela me ha sorprendido ligeramente. Es decir, la aparición de cierto personaje por primera vez, me permitió lanzar mi apuesta rápidamente. Sin embargo, con la sucesión de los eventos, iba descartando esa idea por momentos. Incluso cerca del final, llegué a descartarla del todo. Pero los dos últimos capítulos me agradaron realmente por la forma en que todo sale a la luz. Algo que sigue sin gustarme es la baja presencia de personajes femeninos, y que siendo Bayta casi la única de relevancia, esta caiga en el tópico de mujer cándida, cuidadora y totalmente dependiente de su esposo. Solo en algunos momentos se vislumbra algo de carácter genuino y autonomía. Como con el anterior libro, se nota que es una historia de su época en este sentido.

Si a Fundación le di 3 estrellas sobre 5, a este le daria 3,5. Pero Goodreads no permite dar pedias puntuaciones, así que se queda en 3.

El arranque se me hizo algo lento y confuso. Pero llega un punto en que no puedes parar de leer. Echo en falta la organización de la historia en capítulos, los saltos repentinos de unos personajes a otros son molestos a veces.
Como historia, no defrauda. Es increíble. Estoy deseando leerme el último libro
