I really loved this book. The storytelling is excellent, and as someone that has suffered from varying degrees of depression and setbacks over the years, reminded me of what it felt like to have clarity about what I wanted to do and to be.

Miles Vorkosigan is a fantastic character. It's been great fun getting to know him and his manic no-holds-barred approach to life.

Narrator of audio book does a great job, his delivery felt perfect for Barrayar and Barrayarans.

I listened to this program because I hadn't ever felt moved by Haydn's works and wanted to understand him better. I now absolutely love Haydn, particularly his string quartets which are just gorgeous and which this course introduced me to for the first time. I cried for him at the end.

This is perhaps my favorite sci fi novel published after 1990. There are pacing and length issues at times, but it delivers and delivers well the top value I want from sci fi: it surprises me with new ideas, giving me an alien experience from the inside out.

I had already been trudging through the audiobook for hours when i realized there were still 20 hours left, and 10 hours was really enough. The writing didn't interest me and I didn't care about the characters so I finally gave up.

This is a fast and easy read, great fun sci fi with great worldbuilding from the author.

I devoured this book. Tchaikovsky's stories are intentional, involving, richly orchestrated, and meaningful. The audio book narration is top notch.

The hook of “Eliza Bennett with a musket” doesn't do Emily full justice; this is no gimmick. Emily is worthy of recognition on her own terms.

The audiobook narration by Michael Maloney is fantastic - very dramatic, and Peter Blood's Irish accent carries a great deal of wry humor and charm.

CW: Some outdated language relating to sex and race, as one often encounters in books of this era.

I don't know what I expected, but this wasn't it. I'd describe this as a Victorian scientist explorer's travelogue based in a fantasy world, and giving a female perspective. The elegant writing style pulled a lot of the weight, making it an easy read that I didn't want to put down.
