I loved this book. It's a perfect light read with likable characters and plenty of LOL moments. My only gripe is that I wish it was a little bit longer.
DNF @ 15%. This may be just one of those slow-starting books but life is too short to continue reading a book that hasn't piqued your interest by this point.
Such a fun read with lots of laugh out loud and swoon-worthy moments! You can feel the tension between the two MCs as they go from being office enemies to something more. Think Rachel and Gavin from Friends. I loved all of Lucy's quirks and how Josh just accepted her for them. I loved everything about this story and I'm excited to read more from this author! Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2016!
It wouldn't be a Tarryn Fisher book if it didn't make you want to throw your Kindle across the room every other chapter. The thing I love about Tarryn is that she writes characters who aren't perfect. They all have flaws, some of them major. They do some pretty messed up things. That's what makes them feel real. Helena and Kit are no exception to this. Helena is funny but she also made some questionable decisions in F*ck Love, as did Kit, whom I disliked a lot at certain points. But despite their flaws, I was rooting for them and holding out hope that they would both somehow get a happy ending.
Overall this was a very good book and I'm so glad Tarryn wrote another romance. She is pretty awesome at it.
Hawthorne & Heathcliff is a beautifully written story about love and loss and finding yourself. It may sound like a story that's been written over and over again but I felt it was unique to anything I had ever read before. The story begins when H&H are seniors in high school and spans 8 years. I loved how the characters grew together and apart from each other over the course of those 8 years. The ending was perfect, the last 25% after the time jumps my favorite part of the book.
My only complaint is that while the writing was beautiful and poetic, there were times that I felt the author was trying too hard to have the characters say something profound that it just came across cheesy.
I would definitely recommend this book.
This book was too much like its predecessor. Linden and Bram are basically the same character. Nicola is Steph but with a kid. By these characters' actions, it's hard to imagine that they're in their 30s. The writing wasn't that great either. I try not to pay attention to typos but this book has quite a few, including continuity errors where in one scene it's mentioned that Nicola is wearing a skirt and then all of the sudden she's wearing jeans. I don't think I'll be continuing with this series.
I'm so conflicted over this book. On the one hand, the story was great with decent writing. Both of the main characters were so wounded that you just knew something horrible had to have happened to them to make them that way. But it just took too long for everything to be unveiled. And even in this book, we still don't get the entire picture. There was so much angst that I didn't know if I wanted to continue reading at times.
I was excited to read this book because I'm a big fan of the Stage Dive series. However, I was really disappointed. The insta-love between Vaughan and Lydia was not believable. I didn't feel any connection between them, which made it hard to continue reading. But I pushed through to the end, which felt incredibly rushed and forced. It was also hard to keep up with the secondary characters so I don't think I will be continuing with this series.
**Bonus star for the appearance of Mal, my favorite from Stage Dive. His cameo was the best part of this book.
A quick, fluffy read that made me hungry more than anything. I think I would have liked this book better if it had been told in the first person POV rather than third. I feel like we don't get to know much about the characters. There are more details about the food, thus the reason this was only a 3-star read for me.
Eh this book started out on the wrong foot for me. Guy sees girl on TV. Guy hacks into girl's computer to find things out about her and tracks her location at any given time by her credit card purchases. Then when guy admits he has done this to girl, girl doesn't see anything wrong with it and she invites guy into her home anyways. It's a little overdone. I saw the big twist coming from a mile away. It was just sort of boring for me. The only redeeming quality is the banter between the main characters.
This book was cute. I love books when it's the guy trying to win over the girl and the things Logan does in this book to win over Grace are hilarious and sweet at the same time. There are lots of appearances by Logan's teammates and I almost loved the friendship between the guys more than the romance. Anxious to hear who the next book in this series will be about. I'm hoping for Dean.
This book was really refreshing to read after reading a few books with cheesy writing, over the top drama and weak heroines who cried all the time. This book is the complete opposite. The two main characters, Reece and Avery are both likable. There isn't really much angsty drama. It's a sweet story documenting love and growth. A little steamy for my liking but if you skip through the sex scenes it's a pretty good book.
Didn't finish at 54%. I feel like this book really has nothing going on, if that makes sense. By the halfway point, there should be something about the story that hooks me and keeps me reading. This book didn't have that.
OMG this wonderful book! Colleen Hoover has yet to disappoint me with one of her novels. The plot of November 9 is unique from anything I've ever read before, with Ben and Fallon promising to meet every November 9th for five years. They have no contact with each other the rest of the year. Their story had me hooked from the first page all the way to the end. You will fall in love with Benton James Kessler and your heart will be happy and then it will hurt. There are some twists and turns, one big one in particular that I did not see coming! I highly recommend this book!!!
Also if you are a fan of Ugly Love, READ THIS!
Life after Will Traynor sucks. If you finished MBY imagining that Louisa is off seeing the world and living her life to the fullest, you're better off pretending that this sequel doesn't exist.
Cute, quick read with likable characters. The author did well with building the tension between Hannah and Garrett. I loved their banter back and forth as well as the relationships the author developed with their other friends throughout the story.
Not my favorite from Nicholas Sparks. It took me a while to get into the story and when I finally did, it felt too much like something I had read before. He's already written two books focusing on a stalker storyline, The Guardian and Safe Haven so I was disappointed that this book was so similar.
This book was disappointing. It was boring most of the time and the main characters, who are supposed to be in their thirties, acted and spoke like teenagers. The downfall of their relationship, aside from the PTSD, was a simple miscommunication. I found it hard to believe that this couple could be together for how many years and still not be able to TALK to each other. The last 20% was too over the top dramatic in my opinion.
***Edited to say I did finish this. I couldn't give up when I made it so far. But for the last 20%, I skimmed. After sleeping on it, I'm changing my review from 2 to 1 stars.
DNF at 80%. I just couldn't do it anymore. This book is kind of all over the place. We have an introverted hermit who works for a PR firm and wears baggy clothes and little makeup and a rugby player who needs his image revamped because rugby players are apparently well-known celebrities who are constantly followed by paps and written about in gossip magazines?? Idk. Anyways, rugby player then falls for hermit the minute he sees her and proceeds to stick his hand up her shirt. Aside from that, this book has too many tropes. Insta-lust, a fake relationship that sort of becomes real, a scary parent who still thinks they can control their 30-year-old manchild, a bitter ex, a burglary, and to top it all off, throw some BDSM into the mix. It's too much, especially when there's nothing really likable about the main characters to begin with.
The Summer Remains might as well have been called The Fault In Our Stars 2. It's basically the same story–sick girl meets beautiful boy, they fall in love, etc. Some of the quotes in this book sounded like they were extracted directly from the pages of TFIOS.
Aside from the glaring similarities to another book, I had a hard time connecting to these characters. I felt like a good majority of the book was spent telling us that Summer and Cooper fell in love, rather than showing us how they fell in love. I felt like the characters didn't have very much depth to them, thus making it hard to feel an emotional connection to them.
I'm disappointed because this story had a lot of potential to be great but it really just fell flat for me. Also the ending was too over the top for me. I would recommend it maybe only if you haven't read TFIOS, or else you'll spend the whole book noticing the similarities.
Not really sure how I feel about this book but I gave it four stars because it kept my interest and it's Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher. It's different from what these two authors usually write and it's intriguing. It could have been longer. It didn't feel like I read an entire novel. Now to wait for the next installment.
7/2018 re-read: I forgot how cute their friendship is, omg<3
4.5 stars, this book is the epitome of a slow burn. You can feel the tension between Sal and Kulti from their very first meeting. My only gripe is that I wish there would have been a bit more flirtation between them because it took so long for anything to happen and by the time it did, the book was over.
I wanted to support Courtney Milan after the whole RWA debacle but I'm not really into historical romances so I was really happy to discover that she had a series of contemporary romances. Unfortunately though I just did not like this. I didn't feel any chemistry between the main characters and there was a lot going on that didn't make a lot of sense to me.
