As a big fan of the TV show I was slightly disappointed. The story seemed a bit lacking in depth as did the characters. I guess it's unfair to compare a relatively short novel to that of a television show which had a lot more scope to create a deeper narrative. Hopefully the next book improves where this one left off.
Crazy book. Groundbreaking for it's time I'm sure. Will have to read again at some point to try and comprehend it a bit more!
The author certainly lost his way with the 3rd novel and has tried to revert to a storyline more in line with the first two novels. While I was pleased to see Dexter ‘return to the real world' in a sense, this instalment of the Dexter series again left me slightly underwhelmed. The first two novels while not being master pieces built a solid foundation to create a great series. The third novel aside (lets forget that happened) I feel like there has been no real developments in terms of characters or story arc. I guess my expectations were slightly too high as I have recently watched Dexter season 4 which took Dexter to a whole new level and had an incredible story line. I shall endeavour to read the latest instalment of the series but I fear it may be my last if it continues the current trend of a weak story.
An improvement on the first novel in the series. It seemed a lot less rushed and fleshed the characters out a bit more.
Good read. Hitchens is blunt and unforgiving in his writing, which is a necessity given the subject matter.
Absolutely loved this book. I'm a big fan of Guillermo's movies and this book did not disappoint. It reads like a movie and I couldn't put it down. I am very excited for the sequel!
I was expecting so much from this book and came away slightly disappointed. Yes it deals with a lot of themes; love, loss, betrayal etc and it deals with these well I just thought that for me, the middle part of the story was slightly weak. It did pick up again towards the end and I felt myself pulled back into the story and was engrossed again. It is certainly a memorable book with some great scenarios, the two man cons for instance. I enjoyed the book on the whole, but I guess the weight of expectation affected my experience.
Another amazing chapter in The Dark Tower saga. This book gave a great insight into Roland and his story as a young man. I just love this series!
Didn't like this at all. No idea what the author was thinking or why he chose to take the story in such a direction. Hopefully the next one gets back to basics. Very disappointing.
Gets a lot of grief for factual errors, but putting those aside I found it very entertaining. Kept me reading and wanting to find out what happened next. Certainly not a masterpiece which it doesn't try to be, but an easy enjoyable thriller.
