One of the best thrillers I’ve read for a long time. Hooked from quite early on right until the very last page.

It was a very normal story
Maybe it's just because I've come from reading high-fantasy but this felt very plain and too grounded for me.
There are some good plot twists and the characters are portrayed well but I just didn't have a NEED to read more by this author like I have previously with others.
A very consistent series
My reviews for the Percy Jackson books continue to sound very similar. I feel they have the potential to be great but are just missing any sort of relationship building or character building. Percy himself doesn't really have any Percy and neither do half of the other characters. Grover is the only character who appears to show some humour and opinion on things. The rest are all just stubborn and defiant.
I do however thoroughly enjoy the world and the lore involved with these books. I love the many different monsters and googling them to see what they'd look like, along with the wide knowledge of the Greek mythological history that Rick Riordan has. Definitely going to finish the series as this book appears to be building up to something much bigger.
A truly brilliant book that keeps you on the edge of your seat like all proper thriller mysteries should!
This book is, without a doubt, one of the most gripping books I've ever read. Never before, after every chapter, have I gone “cor this is good!” And want to tell everybody around me why I'm so ready for the next chapter.
The characters are believable, lovable and in-depth. The story, as aforementioned, is unbelievably gripping and sometimes quite spooky. The book is simply written so means you can read it at a break–kneck pace. I would HIGHLY recommend for any mystery/who dunnit lovers!
Wonderfully written for Star Wars fans
This book is brilliantly well written and offers up lots of Star Wars lore. There are a LOT of strategical moments and it is written for those that love to think whilst they read. Would recommend being ready to concentrate!
Much better book than the first with much more action. The overarching story is developing too with Milton's personal life beginning to get wrapped up in other people's lives. Once again well written, interesting and memorable characters with a solid and intriguing story.
Non-stop action
No doubt this is quite an entertaining book - there's a rollercoaster of constant action and I've got a lot of time for the ancient Greek mythology. However, it is very simple and doesn't feel quite as re-read able as the Harry Potter's as an adult.
A fairly intriguing story. Not a huge amount of action considering how the book is sold to you. However if you're from England, it will feel really grounding and relatable. Well written with short chapters makes it easy to read for far longer than you intended to.
A consistently enjoyable read
It's very similar to the other stories. Very grounded, very down to earth and an easy and enjoyable read.
It was a nice change to meet a villain who could finally match up to Milton and made for a nice change in tone
If you've read the others in the series then there absolutely no reason you should give this a miss.
Another brilliant outing for John Milton by Mark Dawson. One of the shortest books in the series gives you a decent amount of plot for so fewer words. This book covers more and more detail about John's personal life and gives readers a deeper look into a really cool new character who leaves you with intrigue.
On top of this, the book doesn't ever seem to slow for very long which means it's very hard to put down and leaves you always wanting to come back. Also one of the better endings to an action book that really makes this a series I want to keep reading!
A unique and intriguing action story
So unlike Milton's other adventures where the general premise is that he's caught up in something very political and large, this book takes the turn of a small town that turns out to not quite be as innocent as it may initially appear.
Once again, fabulous writing by Dawson, I swear I learn new words every time I read one of his novels.
By now you've likely read another Milton, but if you haven't, you don't need to!
Always worth a read
I do enjoy the Jack Reacher series and as we learn more and more about him and grow more and more attached as his personal story develops, i will continue to like him.
However, as with the other two, I've felt there's been a lot of padding out with the story. Unnecessary scenes where it's literally just someone getting undressed or another character excessively self depricating that doesn't advance the story or even their character personality that much.
I also found this particular one in the series not to have a lot of action. I think there were two major action scenes in the whole book which is a shame. But I must say the rest of the story kept me intrigued!
Johnson Miltom continues to get more and more interesting as the series goes on. A man who's just wandering and falls into trouble out of the pure kindness and stubbornness of his heart. This one features a decent set of characters with a villain who's final reasoning for his crimes are completely understandable. I feel as every book goes on, we find out a little more about Milton as I feel he slowly begins to open up having been away from the organisation! Great read but if you're 3 books in, you're likely already a fan!
Best Milton book yet
This is definitely the most I've ever read in a series of books. The Milton series are easy to read but have brought me into a world full of characters I genuinely want to keep reading about.
This book gets a little too close to death for Milton at times and is most certainly stretching him at his limits.
As I said before, this is the best in the series yet. Full of action and some interesting characters!
So fully invested in this world I've actually started thinking of “Storms!” as an acceptable curse-word in my every day life. I much prefer reading these books in halves as it allows me to not feel so guilty for stopping a book halfway through as they come to a resounding and semi-conclusive resolution in my head.
The problem is, however, that I buy both books at the same time so with the endings being so encapsulating, it makes me desperately want to start the second half. But I don't want to burn out so I'm taking a little break.
Slow build up and a lot of learning but a rewarding tale
I know nothing about the 1500s and only remember Henry VIII and Oliver Cromwell as passing names from my high school history lessons. Therefore the religions and politics during this time had to be learnt almost from fresh so the first 200 pages were quite the slog for me.
The remainder of the book was a treat though and the pace really picked up which brought my score up from probably 3/5 to 4/5.
I loved the flawed main character(s) and look forward to reading the sequels to find out more about them.
A truly enchanting book full of wit and charisma
As with the games (where I learnt of the Witches) these stories have an incredible amount of detail and intrigue. You can see why the games are so highly regarded when coming from material such as this.
You'll love all the characters, good and bad. You'll love the witty humour and how quickly it can get dark. You'll love the clever monsters and myths. Its truly a book that any fan of fantasy should read. And being so short but filled with so many stories, it truly feels like I've lived Geralt's stories with him. A truly rare phenomenon is this series and I am thoroughly looking forward to reading a the sequels.
A unique premise that is fleshed out well enough to immerse you within the world. The book then begins to go in directions that I truly didn't think it would. Some great unanswered questions make you want to read the whole series.
A really quite brilliant book. The last 200-250 pages are absolutely incredible as more plot twists unfold and the action ramps up. Imagine Jack Reacher as James Bond but with less tech and not working for anybody but himself. Fantastic read. Arguably the best action story I've read so far. On to the remaining 20-odd Reacher books 👌🏼
Definitely some overarching progress now
My problem with the first two books was there was little happening that made you want to explore the second book other than “what's Dresden got himself into this time?”. This book finally lays some foundations for relationships and a storyline that can follow up into more books. The fourth is supposed to be where these start getting really good anyway so I look forward to it!
A solid teen lit book
Easy to read and simply written make this a book that's enjoyable to follow. The story essentially consists of kids going through multiple.challenges, meeting different well-known characters along the way.
There are no amazing surprises and there's nothing that makes this series I'm desperate to continue with but glad to have read it
I'm a harsh critic as a book reviewer as, being a huge movie fan, I often find it hard to be immersed in a book the same way I am a really good film. This book was a great action book, Jack Reacher gets a lot done with very little effort and, as with both Lee Child books I've read so far, there are always plenty of little twists to keep you going. Alongside these twists you learn a lot about weapons, tactics, how to be a spy and a lot of other really fascinating tips that Reacher has learned over the years that you really hope ring true. Solid book, solid storyline and will definitely continue this series, I'm just difficult to sell to!
Probably my favourite Reacher book yet
So this was the first Reacher book where it felt far more detective than action-hero. There was a lot less fist fights and car chases and such and more deliberating, discussing and using wits.
I enjoyed the slight change and it was a nice change.
Lee Child's writing continues to bug me a bit, describing places far too much with far too much description. Characters having conversations that lead the plot nowhere and feel like filler.
But this can all be forgiven as this was the most interesting Reacher book yet that has me guessing until the end. Whenever there's intrigue and suspicion to be had, you're always guessing in your head who the villain might be but it wasn't too obvious at any point for me.
Incredibly written, powerful story
There's no doubt that this is one of the great novels in history. It's written wonderfully and sometimes required me to reread certain sections to understand the situation better.
The story itself was a little bland. Not the usual highs and lows of what we're used to today. But still one that made you want to keep on reading.
Much better book than the first with much more action. The overarching story is developing too with Milton's personal life beginning to get wrapped up in other people's lives. Once again well written, interesting and memorable characters with a solid and intriguing story.
