I love this book an unimaginable amount. The way that Morgenstern manages to mix the plot and the details of her magical world is extraordinary. It's the book I always reach for if I need a pick-me-up :). Magical historical fiction is just chef's kiss. (ALSO, the romance omfg, the Yearning, the way that the two lovers describe their love for each other, ,,,, I love it so much)
this book was somehow better than the first. Ibrahim is the one guy for me.
lovely beach read again!! there have been a lot of beaches this year.
Did I really enjoy this book?? Yes. Can I acknowledge that this is essentially very well written fanfiction?? Yes. This was a delightful, yet incredibly unbelievable book to read. Some of the plot points made no sense to me, but that's okay :D. I had fun and I wish that I had a beach somewhere nearby to read this book on. Lovely!!
I love books like these. Books that make you want to dance in the rain, to run in the woods, to explore new places, to live honestly and breathe it all in. The importance of the meetings and connections we make in life were so gorgeously illustrated in this story. The mixture of history, romance and fantasy was brilliant, and I'm such a sucker for it. Great book. Thank you Emma for recommending this book Over and Over and Over again. :D
After coming of the high from great magical realism books, I was in the mood for some stupid high fantasy, dark academia-ish type of book. I guess I got what I wanted(?)??). Idk, it was so unbelievable pretentious at times, which made it very hard to connect to these characters. None of them are likeable (I guess that's the point), but it made the big plottwist kinda lose steam.
I did end up enjoying the book in some way, so I was on my way to puchase the sequel, But It Isn't Out Yet, which made this Worse. I didn't want to like this book, but then I ended up liking it, and I can't even hate read the sequel.
Solid 3 stars!!
had a great time read reading this booook!!! the mix between magical realism and academia really scratched an itch. I had a lot of fun and this feels like it'll be a fantastic reread :D.
This was a lovely book to read after my reading slump, it definitely kept on intriguing me, and didn't disappoint in the end. I would like t0 read it again in 20 years, to see how the themes of nostalgia, friendship and growing up affect me in a different way. I am sad to be leaving the world of The Book of Hidden Things so soon, I would have loved to stick around to see what will happen after its end, but all good things come to an end (to Art's chagrin).
I have LOVED reading this book at the same time as my mom!!!!!!!!! This book is everything I needed this summer. Having read the original text in the Odyssey, I didn't really know what to expect. Circe was such a whirlwind of a character in it, so powerful, but kinda one-dimensional. Obviously, Odysseus had to be elsewhere and Homer couldn't really focus on badass mf Circe.
Luckily, Madeline Miller has completely done her justice. Circe has been of my favourite characters that I've read about in mf years, seeing her grow through the ages has been delightful. Every character she interacts with leaves an impact on her and UhghghGHGHGH this was really really realllyyyyy good. I loved the ending, I loved the beginning, I loved the writing, love love love.
Being able to discuss the book with my mother was so lovely, idk, I love my mom <3.
This is a very, very hard book to review. I haven't struggled this hard with a book in ages, but reading it was so fk worth it.
The characters from this book will inhabit my brain for a while. Some will inspire hatred (such as the memoryless Colonel Aureliano Buendias), others will help me stay strong in tough moments (such as the iconic Ursula). Idk. I don't want to be alone, solitude sucks, and nobody in this book learns their lesson. Time is a circle, everything has already been prophesied. Beautiful book. Thanks mum for recommending it.
really, really entertaining read!!! I had fun reading this and the little Shakespeare snippets were so lovely.
okay, so, I don't want to be that annoying ass bitch, who won't shut up about her classical education, but c'mon, it's The Song of Achilles. Booktok had blown this book up, which always makes me very sceptical about if the book is actually worth the hype or not. Well, I hate to say this, but this book deserves the hype and more. It was a magical, entrancing, lyrical type of book that just sucks you in and spits you out after tearing you to shreds. Hmm, that sounds a bit more violent than intended, but that's fine, because this lovely book tricks you with its beautiful passages and then guts you in the end. Madeline Miller has truly done justice to the og myth (I would know, I had to translate the bloody thing). I love this book loads. <3
