And the adventure continues in the magical world of Hogwarts for Harry and his friends.. J.K. Rowling is a genius for how she wrote another epic follow up tale which includes many thrilling events and interesting details that builds a whole world of imaginations in our head and how beautifully everything makes sense at the end.. it was like pure magic. So excited to read the next book..
Well Ik I'm late to the party, however the child in me is sooo happy after reading this book. J.K. Rowling is damn wonderful with words. She sure know the spells to keep you hooked till the very last page of the book. What an amazing magical journey it had been reading the story.. I loved the first book and am really looking forward to the next one.
Enjoyed it sm. Things look promising. Magic system was very unique. Looking forward to the next one, indeed.
I absolutely loved this book. I liked the maturity of the protagonist Dr. Ryland Grace and I loved the dynamic he shared with our little friend Rocky. The ending, especially chapter 30 left me heartbroken but it's definitely the ending Grace deserved. Being a STEM student helped me understand most of the science happening around in the book. I really appreciate how well Andy Weir researched the theories before framing them in different jaw-dropping scenarios. It was a pure delight to read from page one till the end. Andy Weir is a skillful storyteller that hooks your undivided attention into his story. Highly recommended.
Vaguely a self-help book that focuses on the impact of decision making and regrets on mental health woven around a story that goes into the realms of fantasy every now and then.
I shelved one Matt Haig book i.e. Reasons to stay alive in hope of reading it someday but before that could happen I found this book on GR recommendations and thought of giving it a shot as the idea of undoing the bad decisions of our life sounded kinda interesting to me.
The book was slow and boring in the first half with too many unnecessary details and events that killed my interest to know the story furthermore, but in the second half I found it a little interesting. The story has a happy ending where everything falls in place for Nora Reed. But who is Nora Reed?
Nora Reed is a woman in her 30's who is suffering from depression, panic attacks and has a miserable life after losing family and friends as a result of her bad decisions which she regrets later. She was a bright girl since her childhood from being good at academics to acing in water sports but later gave up on everything because of her bad decisions fueled by the pain of losing her father to a heart attack. Things were getting worse until she finally decides to end her life one day.
Soon after attempting suicide, she thought she'd died but she opened her eyes to a mysterious place called the Midnight Library which later she found out to be a simplified form of a complex state in-between life and death created in her mind due to a neurochemical event, where she found hope of changing her life for good by undoing her mistakes in the past.
For each book she picked from the library, it opened up a portal to a different version of her life resulting in different outcomes from what she expected, some of which she liked and some she didn't.
Floating through lives, she found a version which she actually wanted her root life to be, and then for one last time, she is transferred to the Midnight Library where she was told by her guiding spirit(a mental metaphor) Mrs. Elm, to take back the control of her root life once and for all and that's when she wakes up choking the pills she consumed when attempting suicide.
Things get clear and hopeful for Nora as she ponders upon the experience she had in The Midnight Library as she begins to understand the dynamics of life and deducing that she now wants to LIVE.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER?
Nora Reed was a dull character that is somewhat okay for the whole mental health thing the book is all about but I felt the need to know more about the character's past and especially her childhood which shaped her into a person making such crazy-bad decisions one on top of the other. Except for the blurred-out memories of her past, there was nothing solid to learn about her life as a child or a teenager or why her relationship with her dad, mom, and brother was the way it was, which left me asking for more. Book has unnecessary dull parts where she lands in different lives and does irrelevant stuffs, that bored me a little.
People who have known what depression is like especially due to their bad decisions (which is again most of us) will find it relatable.
It's a good story to know what it's like to live with regrets and the consequences of our bad decisions but more importantly to learn to live embracing the happy parts of our life. If you could relate to this then you should probably give this book a try.
Very much loved this part so far in this series. Loved the dynamic between Harry and Sirius. And Lupin became my instant favorite character after reading this book.
It's hard to say which was more fun.. the movie or the book. Loved Ian and Alan. Pretty thrilling read.
This book serves as the introduction to the Witcherverse. Has a very vivid and brutal description of the events where the story mostly revolves around a witcher, Geralt of Rivia, a mutant on the hunt to kill monsters. We also get our beloved characters Dandelion and Yennefer introduced who will play major roles in the upcoming parts of the series. The ending left me very anticipated and confused as to what I can expect from the coming story. Thoroughly enjoyed the story. Very much looking forward to the next book.
Paul was indeed a great neurosurgeon-scientist and a very deep thinker who taught me the meaning of life and death in a finest way through his words. His wife Lucy and his family are really praise worthy of being so brave and rock solid in the final days of Paul's life. This book was my first non fiction I picked up and I'm glad I did that. It will remain one of my favourite books I've put my hands on. All love and prayers for every cancer fighting people out there.. ❤️
3.5 stars. Quick and refreshing read with a couple of takeaways I'm glad I got.
Nick and Norah. Two broke strangers and their totally fucked-up experience in love, collide unexpectedly at an odd hour of the night. Exploring a second shot at life and love, after having one hell of a past. It's a rollercoaster ride of emotions for them as they unravel their vulnerabilities and start helping each other understanding life, and in the end, falling for each other!
Nick is a sober guy or what Nora calls him- a poor schmuck, who plays as bassist in a band named The Jerk Offs. Nick is highly sensitive and obsessed with his Ex, Tris, and her memories.
Nora's different than Nick but she has one thing in common with Nick: her own damaged past relationship. With his ex named Tal, things were worse as Norah was constantly reminded by Tal that she's inexperienced in areas and unwanted unless she becomes the version he wants her to be. While living around Tal's life, she lost the purpose of her own life, and eventually, when they broke up, she was left completely blank with no future to look forward to.
I liked that this book delivered what it was meant to provide to its reader: the idea of falling in love again.
My God. My heart felt heavy reading chapter 80. Liesel, I love her. I feel so sorry for her. Beautiful soul. Lastly I'd say, narrator did a great job telling the story. And yes.. he's haunted by humans.
Sanderson earned an instant fan out of me. I'm so awestruck right now after finishing this hell of a book. God, was it so great!! Will probably write a proper review once I feel a little less emotionally overwhelmed by this book.
P.S. I miss Lightsong tho.
