“...when truths disappear, they leave behind blank spaces, and that is also dangerous.”
“The more I see and hear, the more I realize how much I don't know.”
This book had its merits, but it left me with mixed emotions. While I enjoyed about 50% of it, the rest left me annoyed, particularly the romance between Imriel and Sidonie. Their relationship grated on my nerves and failed to engage me. Despite objectively good qualities, the book's romance hindered my enjoyment.
reread jan, 26, 2023 3rd time reading and feeling a spectrum of emotions, be still my heart.
Second time reading this and it still managed to amaze me like the first time.
This book gave me all the feels. It's everything i want - the excellent plot, the world building and the complex characterization.
Finnikin of the Rock was great in its own. But what makes the second installment my favorite is Froi. The author did a wonderful job at displaying both his good qualities as well as his flaws which made him a very memorable protagonist. The side characters are no less vivid or complex than the protagonist, every character is distinct and serve purpose. I'm in awe at the way Melina Marchetta writes her characters. All of them were flawed and deeply human.
This book completely mesmerized me. The story was compelling with plot twists and shocking revelations. The writing and the detailed description of the world are just perfect.
The growth Froi goes through in this book still fascinates me and the heartbreaking romance of Froi and Quintana still haunts me. These two will forever have a part of my heart.
I also like to address the family bonds in this book. The themes of found family and family by blood are very well done. The dynamics were funny, heartwarming and heart-wrenching at the same time. Just like everything in this book; they were unforgettable.
I don't think words can do justice to summarize my feelings for this book or how good it was, i will just suffice by saying that it put me on a spectrum of emotions. It broke my heart in million pieces.
The writing is unique and i can see that it might not be to everyone's liking but i was ok with it.
The book has an interesting concept but i'm not sure i like the heroine or the romance. I did, however, like Warner's character a lot.
This is so much better than the first book. I can't believe Adam's story hits harder than Mia's.
3.5
I don't how i feel about this book, each character got an amazing development but i wonder where the story is heading at this point
“In every religion, you find the same extremists.”
Very profound, i just found myself not enjoying some of the narration aspects.
3.5 - i enjoyed the first book more but it's still good. I'm left with more questions than answers though.
Impossible to put down. Paranormal romance stories are usually not my thing but this one was very unique with realistic interactions and cool metaphors.
I can't praise this book enough! It's packed with breathtaking scenes and Kaladin, along with Bridge Four, stole my heart. I'm at a loss for words to describe its brilliance, I have a feeling that will be my favorite ongoing series.
This is a very exceptional sequel. A well crafted, politically intriguing story. I'm in awe of how the author developed Attolia's character.
Book 1 was one of the most riveting books I've ever read, unfortunately, I can't feel the same about the final book. I will still continue with the series because the author crafts an amazing world and I'm curious how Imriel's story will play out.
That was a delightful read. I think the crux of this book for me was the writing. But i really enjoyed the journey the protagonist went through and i found the dialogues between the characters amusing and entertaining.
I liked it enough to continue the series. I'm really in the mood for old school fantasy and this one seems to hit the mark. I also heard a lot of praise for the sequel.
This book seamlessly mixed all the elements that usually don't appeal to my taste, or even bring me to pick up a book, yet astonishingly managed to captivate and engross me in it. A very unique read.
It's not really a 5 stars since i have some problems with it but my enjoyment for the first and middle parts overweigh these problems.
Enjoyment and fast pacing aside, this series is packed with amazing fae lore and the worldbuilding is pretty good.
“History does not care about the suffering of the individual. Only the outcome of their struggles.”
Can't articulate my thoughts at the moment, but this sequel was too much awesomeness and i was glued to every single page. There was so much in this book to dwell on, the flawed characterizations that i always seek, the games of ambitions and backstabbing, the mythology with unraveled secrets, all this mixed with tons of actions, a heroine to root for and an angsty good romance and a sly villain that makes sense that it's hard not to like or care about.
“Men were always quick to believe in the madness of women.”
“You have seen me at my worst and at my weakest. Let me show you my best.”
“The past is no further away than the last breath you took.”
Another emotional ride—I should get used to it by now, but I still enjoy being hurt by this author. After finishing the brilliant Liveship Traders trilogy, I was so excited to get back to Fitz. The book is slow, but I didn't mind the pace since I enjoy the character study of Fitz. I'm glad we got to see some of the older cast of characters and I loved the dynamic between Fitz and Dutiful.
Color me impressed! This book alone outshines the first trilogy, and I'm not even insulting the prequels.
Imriel's complex character and inner battles drew me in, making me emotionally invested in his transformative journey. The politics were engaging, and I can't wait to see the loose ends unravel in the sequels. The electric attraction between Imriel and Sidonie promises thrilling excitement based on their dynamic.
Sadly I didn't enjoy this, nor the main conflict. Imriel and Sidonie romance was duller than before, the only part I liked was the one involving Melisande. L'Envers was the true MVP in this book.
There's a lot to unpack here. This finale was emotionally charged, and I appreciate how all the characters' paths intertwined. Malta's character development was exceptional, and Paragon's storyline exceeded my expectations. It's becoming clear who Amber is, and I'm thrilled to continue with the series.
