I don't understand people who say this book was overhyped. It was worth the hype and I devoured every second of it. The plot twist came out of nowhere in the sense that you have a brief thought about it and let it pass until you actually find out and you're like OH now it makes sense. A very enjoyable read for something to get you out of your reading slump. Happy this was the book to jumpstart my year of reading!

Came across this book on TikTok and it was hyped up as one of the best thrillers/books that could not be put down. I agree this book lived up to that standards. However, the plot of the story was very anticlimactic. I expected the story to have more of a “WOW” factor, but it did not give that at all. The story behind the Chain was just a story about how it started. Ginger being related to the Chain was pretty much a given seeing how predictable the story was going. It was a good read don't get me wrong, I was hooked from the time I started it. I just expected a lot more from the book and this is to remind everyone to manage your expectations accordingly.

A very short read which I enjoyed, but I think I expected more magical realism from this story. The story did not go where I expected it to go which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. It did start off with a bang but the plot could've been better. Good lessons throughout the book though.

Hmmm I thought I would really like the book when I first started it. Granted it's the first book I've read where there's more details on corporate adults it felt somewhat relatable. However, I didn't like the main character at all. She started off slightly relatable and then her development went out the door. The ending was disappointing, the second half of the book was disappointing. The downfall of a great book that could've gone very differently. Also, what's with the subtle but not very subtle racism? Weird.

When I first finished the book, I thought it was a good story. I might have over-hyped it on my own because of what everyone has been saying about it previously. It was hard to finish the book because it did get to a point of the war where it was just endless reading about the same things over and over again. Also for Patroclus and Achilles to grow up so fast, it felt like they were forever stuck as young boys in terms of their personalities. It was a good read, the tension was strong and it kept me hooked because I just wanted to know what happened in the end. To me, the writing was simple but the descriptions of the era and everything else complemented the story very well.
