Nice one. Does feel like it ends somewhat arbitrarily, and suddenly. Will be reading the next 3 (looove Fry's humour - as if I'm in a conversation with him in a kitchen after a party at 10 pm). I didn't even think it possible to write with such lightness and ease - even with an inescapable myriad of names. Gorgeous, job well done, can't wait to read the whole series.
Love her writing style, love how she crafts characters. That said, I don't think the book was groundbreaking, even though this is in no way held against the book. It portrayed a bite of a life of people, and maybe I am not in a place (in life) to be taken away by it. It was fine.
Not to start my page on a negative review, but this book compelled me to write one. I was on board for all of the dream world worldbuilding, but couldn't get past the first chapter. The note this book starts off on, is weirdly jugdemental towards fat people. When the main character is stopped at border control because of something the dog sniffer smelled, she begins to accuse everyone arpund her of having drugs on them, pulling from such surface level stereotypes, it was hard not to cringe. Calling a house maid an "au pair" and the elitist vibe was the final nail in the coffin. Maybe the main character changes later in the books, but I seriously doubt so. Save your time and money and go read something else.
