Author Bio

David Williams is Professor of English, Film & Theatre at the University of Manitoba, where for forty years he has taught subjects ranging from American and Canadian literatures to Milton to media theory. His most recent books on media change—Imagined Nations: Reflections on Media in Canadian Fiction and Media, Memory, and the First World War—were both honored by the Association for Canadian and Quebec Literatures as Winner (2003) and Finalist (2009) for the Gabrielle Roy Prize. “Together, these two works comprise the most sustained and convincing attempt by any scholar,” writes a reviewer for University of Toronto Quarterly, “to apply the spatial and temporal concepts of Harold Innis and Marshall McLuhan to Canadian literature and culture.”
His novels are the subject of a collection of essays by literary scholars from India, Germany, and Canada, entitled "Essays on David Williams: A Novelist from the Canadian Prairie" (1999).
