Absolutely sad, obviously, even if it managed to escape from the usually graphic descriptions of the camps, it is Auschwitz, and as the protagonist states, the day you become an adult is the day you stop fearing skeletons and start fearing men.
Dita is a strong, lucid, sweet teenager who manages to be a good friend, a good daughter, a good librarian, and later share these memories. It was a compelling read, and one must admire the kind of spirit that makes this sort of human being and hope to ascend to their level :)
