“I received this book from the author/publisher for the purpose of my review. All comments and opinions are entirely me own.”
After reading and reviewing Captain No Beard; Fribbet the Frog and the Tadpoles, I was excited to be able to review another of Carole's Captain No Beard stories. Just like the other book, A Flag for the Flying Dragon has good moral truths that encourage children to problem solve and help one another. Captain No Beard must find a way to keep all of his younger siblings happy and to make each one of them feel important; he finds that dying to his own wishes, self-sacrifice, would be the best way to accomplish this so he gives up one of the things that he desires.
The writing is easy for young children to understand and engage with while they follow along looking at all of the bright pictures. The creativity in this book is evident throughout and I really cannot complain about anything; however, I am aware that different parents have different convictions about certain material so I am going to mention two things that might sit wrong with some parents.
The flag that the flying dragon obtains has a skull on it and is shown twice in addition to the front cover (though faintly). Also, the stuffed animal monkey has an earring in one ear that is shown several times.
I rate A Flag for the Flying Dragon 5 out of 5 stars and encourage parents of tots (under 5 years) to pick up a copy as soon as you can!
