Once upon a time, as a fair maiden lay weeping upon a cold tombstone, her heartfelt desire was suddenly made real before her: tall, broad of shoulder, attired in gleaming silver and gold, her knight in shining armor had come to rescue his damsel in distress. Thoroughly modern Dougless Montgomery meets her sixteenth-century hero who carries her heart away.

If I could give this 10 stars I would. I read this book for the first time, twenty plus years ago, in Dutch. Loved it so much back then that it stayed with me in my mind for a long time. I got rid of the book a long time ago due to space restrictions. But last year I found a dutch copy, just as I had owned, in a thrift store so I bought it. But didn't come around reading it again, until a few weeks ago when I decided to go look for an English copy and found this edition and I fell in love with the cover. This time I was going to read it ASAP, and here I am, giving it 5 stars, but wishing I could give it 10. This story was as good as I remembered and the last chapters had me in tears, just as they had 20+ years ago. If you like time travel romance this is one story you will have to read. Oh how I love Nicholas, he is the perfect hero. They have outlander as tv show now...has there even been done anything with this book, This would be a perfect movie.
what's it with 80's & 90's white women romanticism ing medieval men who constantly hook up with literally anyone sighs.
