I needed a quick road trip read for the last few days of the year and the title grabbed my attention. However, I hadn't realized until about a quarter of the way through that this is part of a series. I don't know if this is the reason why I felt there were too many gaps or if it was the writing style, but I feel it's only fair to state this before my review.
The book was enjoyable, but the twist was obvious from the start. As I said before, I also felt like there were some gaps in the narrative, a lot of information feeling vague or like an incomplete thought. However, the accounts of Dachau were done superbly and redeemed a lot as well as some great sentiments about the war as a whole. The end sort of dropped off for me, but given this is a series perhaps that was on purpose.
