A Modern Witch

Not much actually happened in this book. I'm hoping this books set the stage for future stories. There was very little tension overall. Everything just sort of unfolded and everyone was okay with the new strangeness. Is that poor writing or an assumption that the human race is much better adjusted than we actually are?
