This story set the stage for a very different kind of supernatural YA tale. There are no vampires, fairies or werewolves. The main character is the one without any special gift and she meets up with a group of school boys on the hunt for an ancient king. There are psychics and magic but all told in a very different sort of story.
After reading and sort of enjoying the first in this series, I thought I'd give the second book a try. I found this book laborious. So... no more wedding planner romances for me. Yawn.
This book introduced a lot of characters and subplots making it clearly the first book in a series. The addition of multiple plotlines slowed the pacing a bit but in the end set up the potential for a much brisker second installment. I liked the array of characters and the flapper era so I'‘ll probably the next volume.
