In spite my distaste for the last 2 books, I was deterred to go through the Ender Series. I have read this book until a few pages after the first church scene. I couldn't stand it. Too much of the same, the story wasn't adding anything interesting to me. The religious rhetoric started to sound too pedantic.
The book started with a very (VERY) lengthy pro-religion like sermon. And when I was ready to give up, the author sort of destroys this whole thing, talking down on religion. At that point I started to fell like this sort of thing also happened in the previous books, and that was making me reconsider Ender's Game as my favorite book. So I stopped this sacrilegious train of though.
Short story taking place in the cadet training area over Christmas. The idea fits in with the rest of the world – removing all religious practices from the students there – but still did not draw me in enough to appreciate the characters.

I am a complete Ender fanatic. With that being said, this book is more of a short story or novella than a novel. Don't expect it to take you long to get through. Plus, it doesn't offer a solid view of Ender. It takes place during Ender's time at Battle School. For a feel good Christmas story for the Ender fan, I say read this. If you're a somewhat Ender fan, I still say read it. Its so short that you're not wasting days on it. If you are completely unfamiliar with the Ender series, it helps to have a background on the Battle School before reading... so read [b:Ender's Game 375802 Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) Orson Scott Card http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1214413570s/375802.jpg 2422333] first.
Short Review: This is another okay novella from the Ender universe. I thought the ending was a bit weak, relying on Ender as savior. The middle section that focused on Dink was decent.
But this is a long short story, not a stand alone book. It shouldn't be marketed as a stand alone book. It didn't hold up as a stand alone book. As part of a collection I think it would be fine.
