Acceptable Risk

Suspense I couldn't put down! Sarah has to solve the mystery of her brother's death in order to keep herself alive. Veterans across the nation are committing suicide, and Sarah is convinced something is up. But at first, she just looks like a grieving sister refusing to accept that her brother was actually suicidal.

I did spot the bad guy as soon as s/he made an appearance, but I defy anyone else to figure that out unless they too have read around 40 Eason novels as I have. But I didn't figure out the motivation for them to go after Sarah until late in the book.

While I loved getting to know Sarah and enjoyed her as the prime MC, I would have liked knowing Gavin just a bit more (come on, publisher, we definitely needed this book to pass 400 pages). I wouldn't like to give up any of the focus on Sarah–just make the book longer and get more Gavin.

What bugged me most, though, was the inclusion of two profane phrases, which lowered my rating by one star. There wasn't a lot of spiritual content to begin with, and then to show characters taking God lightly meant my teeth went on edge a bit. I will never understand why it's okay to ‘swear by all that's sacred' or to call a place ‘Godforsaken' because God is everywhere.
