I received an ARC in return for an honest review. Take some of this with a grain of salt as this is not what I normally read anymore. Also, content warning for the book: contains mention of sexual assault.
This is Fitz's debut novel. Overall I thought this was a short, fun read. Fans of Greek myths will have fun picking out the references as I did.
It might have been because this was the ARC and not the finished book, but I had some issues with formatting, clarity of some sentences, and small lines that felt forced. Chapter 17 and 18 felt especially forced to me in terms of the romance. That may just be me though.
For me the book really picked up about 60% of the way through where there was more action (again, romance is not my normal read). Chapter 35 had excellent use of mythological references that had me cheering.
TLDR if you're a fan of Hades and Persephone retellings and fine with a little cheesiness this book is for you!
