I lost the interest very quickly but not because it's a bad book, it's good and it was gifted for me for someone I love dearly but now I'm close to being 30 than 20 so some things weren't for me. I'll try to give it a second chance when I feel like it but at the moment there are other books I rather read.
When I was milling around San Francisco with one of my friends we popped into a bookstore and happened upon this book. We skimmed through it, looked at the pictures, and laughed. She ended up buying it and I immediately put a hold on it– I remember thinking it was so gosh darn relateable.
Then I got it and... none of that same feeling was there.
The images in this book for the most part really hit home and make think “oh, well, I feel that!” but some times there didn't. The text as well, I thought this book would be about her trials of adulthood and how she overcame them, yet many of the stories are about her travels... and yes the trials she was going through (ie heartbreak or grief), but those stories kept me from truly relating to her journey. Travels around her city or state, maybe even just the US I could understand, but most were her in different countries!
I do have a best friend who travels when she can, so I see how some people might relate, but to me it felt like she was on a different planet.
The writing was done well, I think. I ended up skimming most of it since most of it felt like it dealt with relationships or her travels to foreign locales.
Part of my problem was I thought this book was going to be about her journey to understanding adulthood and feeling more comfortable in an adult setting, but I'm partly to blame for this less than stellar rating.
If you're interested in someone's 20s-30s adulthood journey and some of the things they learned along the way– or just want to see some relateable images, then you should pick this one up!
