3.5 stars. The book is very readable, and is billed as a double biography of the two men, but it's really the story of the mid-century fight against fascism in Europe. Those who question the value of combining their stories seem to miss that point.
While it did take me forever to read this book, I am so glad I did. It was so fascinating- Orwell has long been a personal favorite author (and person!) for me, so I highly enjoyed reading a biography about him.
I'll admit- Churchill has never been of terrible interest to me. But this book opened me up to how much of an interesting and powerful man he was. I commend the author for brilliantly crafting this dual biography. Neither man was given more attention than the other and the author beautifully wound them together. It never felt awkward or forced.
This book is not for everyone. But if you have an interest in either of these men and their impact on the world, I highly recommend it.
