This is the 5th in the Tracy Crosswhite series. We get more of Del, Faz and Kins in this story, which I enjoyed. But this wasn't one of my favorites from this author. Still worth the read.
Well researched storyline. Well-developed compelling characters. Well-written fictional tale that addresses issues not unlike those in today's real-life society. The characters come alive, and the whole scenario skillfully depicted.
This time around homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite not only has some personal issues that she is struggling with, but she is also mired waist-deep in an investigation involving drug use, distribution and conspiracy. There is someone out there dealing deadly heroin and addicts are dropping like flies. Tracy and her team are working night and day to catch the supplier of this lethal powder.
The homicide teams are also working around the clock to find justice for the twelve year old boy who was the victim of a hit and run driver. Complicating and frustrating their efforts is the Judge Advocate's office, of the local naval base, that steps in and assumes jurisdiction of the case and custody of the prime suspect. Some of the characters in this particular judicial system are unsavory, volatile and evil. Their dicey agenda may be something other than protecting their own, and they do not want the SPD snooping into the case.
There are lots of twists and turns, and the reader may be surprised when seemingly bad characters turn out to be the good guys and vice-versa.
I loved the aspect of seeing the other detectives so this was a great read on to the next!
This was a great story. I was totally riveted and any time I couldn't be reading I was still thinking about the book. This story was completely different than anything else I've read too. I really like that Robert Dugoni can keep coming up with new, interesting stories without them being too similar. I especially love reading about the dogs in these books. There's a cat too but I'm a dog person. The dogs in these books have more character than some human characters from other books I've read.
