I stayed up until 4 AM to finish it even though I knew it was Monday and I had to be at work in a few hours. But I couldn't stop reading. The book was fast-paced, griping and eerie. It's not a perfect book, I was pretty skeptical during the first few chapters, but after that I couldn't put it down. I probably shouldn't have read it in the dark (Kindle Paperwhite) as it was much too creepy. When I went to the bathroom I kept expecting something to jump at me from the shadows :))).
This is definitely my all time fave dystopian book of all time! I hadn't realized until recently that it was a series, and I'm super excited to dive into the second book!!
Could not get into this one. There were too many points of view, too many characters (many of them poorly developed), and too little explanation for why anything was happening. It was very much like a horror movie: poor world-building, short on plot, lots of pointless gore. Horror movies aren't my thing, so I could barely bring myself to finish this jumble of a book.
As much as I feel that the dystopian novel has been beaten to death, dragged over hot coals, chilled and then served as leftovers....this one was pretty good. I liked the earthquakes unleashing a rage virus (which I did not read as zombieism). I had a little trouble keeping all of the characters straight, but it was better when they started to pair up.
Some mysteries:
Who the heck is Daniel? And why do I like him so much?
Are all the people left in the world (non-virus people) teens? Where is everybody?
Why do the “baggers” have levels? Nothing gives us a kind of guide, really late into the book, but
I am still a little confused.
And who is Nothing?
Well, I'm hooked for a sequel.
I had this arc laying around and realized the second one is coming out soon, so I figured I would start this one. I'm glad I did.
Is this maybe The Stand, starring teens?
