This was my first experience reading a middle-level graphic novel, and I am just blown away! I flew through the 300+ pages in a heartbeat, I was completely sucked into the story and the art style. This novel did a fantastic job of wrapping the “delicacies” of life into a story of life, loss, and friendship. Too many children are affected by both suicide and loss, and I believe stories like this are a great way to inform children and parents alike about mental health and bullying issues, and to show them that they are not alone. I will definitely have this in my classroom library, and will promote it for students to read.
Thank you for this ARC, NetGalley and Oni Press! #Delicates #NetGalley
Great second volume. Although, I did like Sheets a tad bit more this installment is equally as good. Sheets was very light hearted but still tackled a heavy subject and I enjoyed the ghost world laws. In Delicates the plot and themes are much more serious as it deals with loneliness and suicidal thoughts.
Wendell is still the best. I can't wait to read volume three.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
“How is it that we're all people, we all feel the same basic emotions, but somehow we still can't understand each other?”
This is the second book in the series and while it wasn't as good as the first, I enjoyed it. I found it a bit more slow and because of Marjorie's actions I began to not like her. I glad that she came around though
Eliza is such an amazing character and I really resonated with her. I hope we get to see more of her in any upcoming books
Also the ending was so sweet. I'm giving it a 3.5 purely because it was such a slow beginning but the ending was so good
Big sis is going through some changes. She has managed to save the family business thanks to her new ghost friend. However, she is becoming a mean girl. Still self-aware but being swayed by her bratty ass peers... equals muddy middle. This was just ok. I was trying to be understanding because Big Sis is still raising herself without the proper guidance. Ghost Buster Eliza with the camera is sweet but misunderstood and all she needed was one good friend. Big sis, being in that same situation not too long ago, didn't have the understanding that she could be that person. She redeemed herself... eventually.
CW: suicide ideation, bullying, death
