These 11 stories were first printed in pulp science fiction magazines between 1944 and 1950, with this volume first appearing in 1953. Just to mention two ("Enchanted Village" and "A Can Of Paint"), one wonders why they haven't made it to an anthology series or episodic film (as has been done with "The Martian Chronicles"). The first presents an explorer with the problem of understanding what sort of being would make use of the confusing buildings and fixtures in a deserted city; the second concerns an alien substance: is it ordinary paint or is it a weapon? This is "Van" at his best.
