This was such a fun read! Also, how cute are the vintage vibes that the cover gives?! I love it so much! Done and Dusted follows Emmy Ryder, a champion barrel racer who returns to her hometown following an accident, and Luke Brooks, Emmy's brothers best friend and local bar owner. The two start spending time together around Emmy's family's ranch, and although they fight it, their chemistry is undeniable. This is brother's best friend romance goodness! There is great tension between the characters and amazing banter. The romance is hot and spicy— the mouth on Luke Brooks is
look... it was a good book okay...
but lately the romance books i've been reading have been lacking so much in conflict (this one included)
like idk i'd rather have a shitty ass miscommunication plot that lasts 10% of the book, a rushing to the airport to see her cliche, ANYTHING, over this - They meet > they fall in love > that's it.
4.5 Stars
It was so cute, I loved it. Its a Small Town, Brothers Best Friend, Cowboy Romance book with good spice. Also duel POV.
Clementine “Emmy” Ryder has no idea what she's doing so she moves to back to her home town Meadowlark, Wyoming. Where Luke Brooks is Meadowlark's most notorious bad boy, bar owner, and bachelor. And her brothers best friend.
“Emmy Ryder might have been in like with me, but it was then that I knew I was falling in love with her.”
This book was awful. The writing, the characters and their utter lack of personality or development in any way, the “romance”, and even the smut was skeevy. The ADHD representation was the only redeeming quality for me. I just did not like any of these characters. Except maybe Wes. Sudden insta-love between people that have known each other forever is just weird. Like it should have built up a little. It was like if Odette stayed with Derek after he realized she was pretty and that was all he needed (sorry for the random swan princess reference). Teddy was also annoying. I can't imagine a world in which I would continue this series just out of the fear of having to read another 300+ pages with her as the main character. It was really difficult not to DNF this.
Well alright then, sugar
Whew. Luke and Emmy are a hot pair!
Honestly, though, I loved the ADHD rep in this book because I am also ADHD. The few descriptions of what it's like really made me see myself in Emmy and it gave me a connection I don't normally get to have with FMCs. And her best friend who just GETS her and Luke who just rolls with the punches (no pun intended lol)? Icing on the cake.
I'm such a huge fan of this book and will not stop recommending it.
I mean yeah, I'm going to enjoy a misunderstood good yet bad boy written by a woman pretty much every time, but that was where my enjoyment ended. The characters somehow acted 10 years younger than their alleged ages for most of this (annoyingly)—I actually had to keep reminding myself they're all real adults here...
Cute but kind of disappointing overall.
The covers for this series are fire, but the contents are just cringe men and boring women. What’s worse than an overprotective big brother physically assaulting his (grown adult) sister’s love interest for… no reason? Do we not live in the 21st century?
Bom entretenimento tho, apesar de não ser a maior fã da trope brother best friend.
A cute little western romance. This one actually had plot that wasn't just the romance. I did expect a red herring and was surprised that the story finished without much tension. Overall I enjoyed the plot and the characters. None of them were overly annoying though some could've been left out and the story wouldn't have really changed all that much.
This was a perfect cowboy romance. Brothers best friend.
I almost wish it was longer, because I want more of Luke and Emmy. But then I don't because it was perfect as is.
Luke is so sweet on emmy and she is everything he didn't know he needed. He helps her with her panic attacks, and she brings his true self out.
An unexpected romance between them, but sweet and heartfelt.
This was really fucking cute. A very well executed brothers best friend with excellent smut.
This was the perfect, cute but still spicy romance. I'm usually not a fan of cutesy type romances but I really loved this book. I want more of Emmy and Luke
Save a horse ride a cowboy is the epitome of this story and brothers best friend count me in, I absolutely ate this book up and had to buy the next and of course pre order the other two in this series
This was such a cute read. He falls first, bad boy turned cinnamon roll with a cowboy edge. Sign. me. up. Very spicy, especially the 2nd half of the book. Sometimes, subplots can feel lazy or just thrown in for the hell of it, but Clementine's struggles and friendship with Teddy fit in perfectly and helped move the love story along. 4 stars! Would have been 5, but I think I just needed a little bit more... of what, I don't know, but it didn't have that extra spark that made this spill into “OMG I'M OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK” territory. Looking forward to book 2!
