Still, I am completely captivated by this series and devoted to its characters while Gabaldon plays with my heart, from one moment to the next enraging me, devastating me, and delighting me.
Meh. Not my favorite in the series. Brianna is such an annoying character. I like reading more about Jamie and Claire and could really do without Brianna and Roger. Nope.
Dang, was this a long book! Even listening to the audiobook, it seemed to take forever. And yet, for the most part, I enjoyed this book - there are some events that are impossible to enjoy, but I do love these characters, and I like following along with their adventures. That being said, my favorite scenes are the quiet family moments when they're all gathered together, without threat or immediate danger, simply enjoying each others' company.
I've already seen the show, so I knew most of what was coming, but there were still some surprises - plot points that were omitted or handled differently, and it was nice to get more detail on some of the events from the show as well. Overall, this is another good addition to a wonderful series, not my favorite but certainly not my least favorite. The ending is a bit abrupt, however.
Al igual que muchos de los que ya llegamos aquí soy fan de Diana Gabaldon y de esta serie de novelas. Outlander me encanto y también me gustaron Dragonfly in Amber y Voyager a pesar del montón de coincidencias. Y aún sigue siendo de mis series favoritas. Ya hasta estaba aceptando los 20 años de separación, que me provoco uno de los mayores sufrimientos en mi vida de lectora. Casi dejo de leer después de eso. Pero continué y estaba decidida a seguir hasta el final. Amo a sus personajes.
Y aunque siempre que empiezo con un libro nuevo lo hago con cierto recelo, ya una vez que me embarco no puedo dejar de leer, paro lo demás que tenga entre manos y solo tengo tiempo para leer a DG. La historia me iba gustando, las partes de Jamie y Claire y las pequeñas intervenciones de Roger y Brianna en el siglo XX. Pero después de la primera mitad del libro pasa algo y esto empieza a caer y ya no sé si se arregle.
Vamos con esto Spoilers.
No me gusta Brianna en el pasado y me niego a que se quede ahí.
En el futuro Brianna investiga a sus padres y descubre que le pasará algo grave y decide viajar para prevenirlos. Ok, esta bien son sus padres, no hay problema, ahora lo que sigue.
Roger al enterarse viaja 200 años al pasado, atraviesa el Atlántico, llega a las Américas y que es lo primero que hace al encontrar a Brianna, como si nada hubiera pasado la saluda y dice - Espérame tantito, que ahora vuelvo - ¿En serio? ¡No está viendo como es la mujer! Esto no puede acabar bien.
Se va en busca de Bonnet para robarles las piedras que los harán regresar, no podía esperarse un poco, en ese momento no había prisa. Aparte ni lo encuentra y se va a buscarlo dando vueltas quien sabe a dónde. Brianna por supuesto al ver a un desconocido con el anillo de su madre acepta a ver al hombre en su barco y luego bajar a su camarote. Y pues pasa lo que tenía que pasar. Será que se hereda.
Pero lo que me molesta es Roger llegando por fin y siendo recibido por Jamie e Ian. Que no pudieron preguntarle quien era y Brianna no dice que se hace llamar Roger Mackenzie cuando les da los datos para que lo busquen (Todo un malentendido ¿y asi como lo quiere encontrar?). Y Jamie tampoco averigua mucho antes de dejarlo inconsciente y dárselo a los Indios (pobre hombre). Es que éste libro deja a Jamie como un imbécil, y no puedo vivir en un mundo donde Jamie Frasier sea un imbécil.
Tengo problemas también con los embarazos tan pronto en una relación, aunque aquí no aplica ya que es consecuencia del desvarío anterior. Casi al final Claire dice a Roger que Brianna tiene miedo porque sus primeras experiencias no fueron buenas. Por un momento pensé que el libro abordaría mas este tema, pero no, tal vez en los próximos. No creo que me entere pronto.
No me parece un mal libro, pero no me gusta que me destrocen a los personajes. Tengo muy buenos recuerdos de los primeros libros, así que me da un poco de miedo seguir con la saga. Lo pensaré. Pero no creo que sea en un futuro muy cercano.
Enjoyed this one thoroughly. Loved the scenes with the Indians, loved the intertwining of the other time-traveler (who was right but would never be able to accomplish his goals,) and loved our new couple. It is nice to see a relationship progressing from parenting to grandparenting while still being so full of life and love. Just enough realistic magic.
This book was more fast paced than Voyager and I had a hard time putting it down. IT was more character based and less movement around the globe. Voyager went from Scotland to Jamaica to North Carolina, but this was more based in North Carolina. It told more of the story of Brianna and Roger and how they fit into the lives of Jaime and Claire. Intereting use of historical data and the relationships between father/daughter and father/son-in-law.
I'm glad that Claire is a strong female character and breaks out of the expected female role in that time period. Brianna follows in her mother's footsteps and I love her strong temperment too. I'm glad the author also spent time on the story of the Indians as so much rich culture was lost.
You know a story is good when it makes one want to go back and study the history of the day. I can't wait to see what happens in the next two books.
