I read this way before it was made into a trilogy (either that or I didn't even notice it was a trilogy). It's a disappointment of a book. It felt more like a mushy soap opera than an actual fantasy plot. Ed Greenwood is the creator of the Forgotten Realms. Perhaps he tried to put in too many things into this book. There are way too many characters involved here. And very strangely in a fantasy story, there's actually a lot of sexual scenes... I also hate the two protagonists - they either cry too much or get very-close-to-death-but-convenient-healing-is-nearby too much. The plot is cliche and the execution of the plot was quite amateurish.
