From Out in the Cold

I read these books and I feel at worse like an alien and at best like some kind of cultural anthropologist. Seriously who the f**k are these parents who say they love their children but can cavalierly set them aside because they “don't believe in their lifestyle” a.k.a. being gay. It's not a religion or theory. You don't have to believe in it. It is. Even if you don't believe in the roundness of the Earth it will continue to be round. Secondly what kind of weak tea kind of love is the one that lets you turn a blind eye to the suffering of your own flesh and blood over something so unimportant to your own well being as their sexual orientation? Jeremy's whole family could drive me to murder.

This was a hurt/comfort story of two lifelong friends who are still young men but who have lived through traumatic experiences and are looking for some way to cope in a harsh world. Neil has suffered an unspeakable loss and Jeremy has done one tour too many in Afghanistan. More than a romance the story focuses on how each finds in the other the shoulder to lean on and the willing ear when they were both hanging by tooth and nail. It helps that they have their past friendship as a solid foundation. I won't say much more but that if you want a good ragey, teary but ultimately cathartic read this works very well plus the ending is just right.
