This is an important source on the composer-conductor Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) by his widow Alma (Schindler) Mahler (1879-1964). The book is in two parts: (1) Erinnerungen, that is, Alma's memoirs of her life with Gustav; and (2) a selection of Gustav's letters to his wife. The book was published in 1940 by Allert de Lange and reprinted in 1946 by Bermann-Fischer; the English translation by Basil Creighton was published in 1946 and reprinted in 1967, with an introduction by Donald Mitchell; a revised English-language translation appeared in 1973; with a fourth edition in 1990. Various German-language editions have appeared since the original publication of the book.
